Woodard & Curran is an employee-owned engineering, science, and operations firm dedicated to clean water, a safe environment, healthy communities, and happy people. We foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that supports professional growth, flexibility, and meaningful work, empowering our employees to make a lasting impact on our clients, communities, and the planet.

Woodard & Curran is seeking a full-time Operator to join the Lisbon Water Department in Lisbon, Maine. In this role, you will report to the Project Manager, who serves as the System’s Primary Designated Operator.

You’ll work alongside a team of four operators and the Project Manager, supporting the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the department’s drinking water treatment and distribution systems.

The Lisbon Water Department system includes:

  • Moody Street Treatment Plant
  • Four groundwater wells: Ann Street Well, William E. Bauer Well, and two Moody Wells
  • Two storage tanks
  • A two-zone distribution system

No two days are exactly the same. You’ll have opportunities to take on different challenges, build your skills, and contribute to maintaining 100% compliance through daily process monitoring and a comprehensive maintenance system.

If you enjoy hands-on work, spending time outdoors, and helping protect one of our most important natural resources, water, this could be a great opportunity for you. Woodard & Curran is committed to employee growth and development and wants to support you along your career path.

Work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures. Operators participate in an on-call rotation for system coverage outside normal workday hours, and shifts may include weekends. Operators will also be required to respond to emergency situations and work in inclement weather as needed.

This project operates on a rotating four-day, 10-hour-per-day workweek:

  • Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; or
  • Tuesday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
  • Operators rotate a seven-day on-call coverage schedule.
  • A $200 per week on-call stipend is provided.

You’ll receive a generous total rewards package that includes:

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Excellent benefits, including retirement, generous paid time off, holidays, medical and dental insurance, and a flexible spending account.
  • Career growth opportunities.
  • Support and reimbursement for earning, upgrading, and maintaining industry licenses and certifications.
  • Bonus potential for obtaining the next level of licensure.
  • No operator license is required to apply. We welcome candidates who are motivated to grow in the field and have the ability to become licensed.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Maine Class I Operator-in-Training Treatment and/or Class I Operator-in-Training Distribution License, but strong candidates without licenses who are eager to pursue them will also be considered.
  • Ability to achieve a Maine Class II Full Treatment and Class II Distribution License within two years of hire, with support provided along the way.
  • 1–3 years of experience in the water treatment and distribution industry preferred; related experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with the operation, maintenance, and repair of drinking water facilities within the last five years.
  • Familiarity with water treatment and distribution system processes, including laboratory analysis, record keeping, and facility maintenance.
  • Proficiency with computers, including SCADA, Microsoft Word, Excel, Maintenance Management Programs, and other site-specific systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record working with regulators and a solid understanding of regulations and reporting requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to work an irregular schedule and overtime hours as needed.
  • Ability to regularly lift or move up to 40 lbs.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical, and drug screen before employment.
