Join Our Team

At the YMCA of the Suncoast, our facilities are more than buildings-they're places where children learn to swim, families grow stronger, and our community comes together. We're looking for a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Coordinator who takes pride in keeping our buildings, grounds, and equipment safe, clean, welcoming, and operating at their best.

If you enjoy solving problems, working independently, and seeing the results of your work every day, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

Working under the direction of the Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and completing the day-to-day maintenance needs of the branch. You'll perform general building repairs and preventative maintenance while helping ensure our facilities and equipment remain safe and in good working condition.

Your day may include painting, pressure washing, grounds maintenance, and completing minor plumbing, electrical, irrigation, or carpentry repairs. You'll regularly inspect the facility and equipment to identify maintenance or safety concerns, complete monthly safety inspections and checklists, and keep maintenance tools, supplies, and work areas organized.

You'll also assist with maintenance projects and communicate needs and progress with branch leadership. Building positive relationships is an important part of this role, as you'll work with YMCA staff, volunteers, contractors, vendors, members, and guests. You may also help ensure outside service providers are completing work as expected.

Most importantly, you'll help create an environment that is clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone who walks through our doors. This includes promptly reporting safety concerns, suspicious activity, or situations that could impact the safety of our members, children, staff, or guests.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is dependable, self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently. You should enjoy troubleshooting problems, working with your hands, and figuring out practical solutions when something needs attention.

Strong communication and customer service skills are also important. While this is a hands-on maintenance position, you'll interact regularly with staff, members, vendors, and volunteers and should be comfortable managing multiple priorities while keeping branch leadership informed.

Qualifications

Research shows that some applicants only apply when they meet every qualification. If you're excited about this opportunity and believe your skills and experience could make you a great fit, we encourage you to apply.

We're ideally looking for someone with two or more years of experience in maintenance, construction, facilities, handyman work, or a related field. Experience with common hand and power tools and knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, painting, and general building maintenance are preferred.

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification is also preferred; training may be provided if needed. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and be able to successfully complete required background screening and pre-employment drug screening.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position that requires the ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. The Maintenance Coordinator must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday; work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions; and safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.

Why the YMCA?

As part of the YMCA of the Suncoast team, you'll receive a the opportunity to enorll in our group Medical plan, Paid Time Off (PTO), opportunities for professional development and certification, and a supportive team environment.

More importantly, you'll have the opportunity to see the impact of your work every day. When our facilities are safe, clean, and running smoothly, you're helping create a place where our community can learn, grow, connect, and thrive.
