Banquet Steward

Sandy Lane Hotel, an AAA Five Diamond, Forbes Five Star exclusive resort and a member of Leading Hotels of the World, is seeking to recruit a Banquet Steward in its Food and Beverage Department.

The Role

The banquet steward  reports to the Banqueting Manager is responsible for the setup of all banquets and meetings.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Delivers items to and from the hotel to assist with the setting up of functions
• Assists with the delivery of items to offsite events
• Reviews the banquet order carefully
• Estimates how much china, glassware, and silverware will be used and ensures that there are enough utensils and cutlery on hand
• Visits the area where the function will take place with the Captain or Coach and obtains clear instructions
• Checks to ensure that all the equipment is in good working condition
• Ensure that the units are clean, that there are enough serving utensils, and that the heating elements are working
• Obtain the China, glassware, and silverware requisitions from the Banquet Coordinator / Supervisor
• Prepare the buffet tables for set-up and assist in the breakdown of stations with stewarding at the conclusion of the event.
• Ensure the service area is kept clean and organized throughout the event
• Ensure that all dirty dishes are returned to the kitchen and the dirty glasses are stacked on the racks.
• Walk through the entire area to ensure that all the hotel equipment has been collected.
• Cleans all the equipment and reports any broken or missing items to the Banquet Supervisor/ Manager.
• Ensures that department standards are followed at all times.

Our ideal candidate must possess:

• A good secondary education with passes in CXC English Language and Mathematics
• One year’s experience in a similar position preferably in a hotel environment
• Good customer service, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills along with the ability to prioritize

• Good communication skills with both internal and external guests.
• Ability to anticipate needs and be flexible in meeting request
• Ability to remain calm, objective and courteous under pressure and in stressful situations.

It is a requirement that the candidate must have a flexible working style as long hours are required from time to time. They must also be in excellent physical condition to perform extensive walking, bending, lifting and stretching.
