In this role, you will design, develop, secure, and maintain database systems that support critical government supply operations and enterprise applications. You will ensure data integrity, availability, and performance while implementing reliable database architectures and effective security controls. Working closely with software developers and technical teams, you will optimize queries, manage database releases, and support the full database development lifecycle. You will also contribute to testing, troubleshooting, backup and recovery planning, and continuous improvement initiatives. This fully remote opportunity combines hands-on database engineering with security-focused practices in a mission-driven government technology environment. It is an excellent fit for a detail-oriented technical professional who enjoys solving complex data challenges and delivering dependable, high-quality database solutions.
Design and implement database solutions: Develop, configure, and maintain databases that meet application requirements, ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficient data management.
Develop database components: Create and maintain stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, schemas, and other database objects to support application functionality.
Maintain data models and integrity: Design and update data models, entity-relationship diagrams, and data-flow diagrams to promote consistency, accuracy, and traceability.
Strengthen database security: Implement authentication, authorization, access controls, and other security measures in accordance with applicable Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of the Navy (DoN) policies.
Optimize database performance: Analyze queries and database workloads, applying indexing, caching, query optimization, and other techniques to improve responsiveness and efficiency.
Manage database environments: Create, configure, maintain, and decommission database instances while ensuring their stability and alignment with operational requirements.
Develop and execute test plans: Conduct and support unit, integration, and performance testing to validate database functionality, reliability, and compatibility with dependent applications.
Implement backup and recovery procedures: Develop and maintain strategies to protect data integrity, support availability, and enable recovery from system failures or data loss.
Collaborate with development teams: Partner with application developers and other technical stakeholders to align database architecture with application requirements and integration needs.
Support secure software delivery: Use enterprise version-control systems and contribute to secure, quality-controlled continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, testing, and deployment processes.
Manage system interfaces: Identify, define, and maintain interfaces between databases and other applications, ensuring integration requirements and agreements are formally documented.
Support production operations and releases: Troubleshoot production outages, prepare release packages, update work items in designated tracking tools, and participate in internal reviews and change-control boards.
Conduct quality assurance and corrective actions: Audit system deliverables, investigate errors, identify root causes, and implement corrective measures to improve product quality.
Maintain technical documentation: Keep database designs, configurations, implementation details, testing procedures, and operational documentation accurate and up to date.
Build effective working relationships: Communicate professionally with clients, colleagues, government stakeholders, and internal and external partner organizations.
