Computational Chemist, Senior Principal Scientist

We’re seeking a Computational Chemist to join us in our mission to transform the discovery of therapeutics and materials! 

Our drug discovery group of over 60 scientists includes designers, modelers, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, crystallographers, biochemists, and biologists with experience working on all common target classes and therapeutic areas. The group is supported by more than 100 software developers and engineers, as well as a large scale computer infrastructure. Four of the programs we’ve worked on in the past seven years have progressed into the clinic; two are still progressing through trials and two have been approved by the FDA. 

This employee will be hired at the Senior Principal Scientist level.

• An experienced drug designer with a proven track record of utilizing state-of-the-art computational models to advance drug discovery projects
• A modeler with demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following molecular modeling areas: virtual ligand screening, computationally-driven lead optimization, AI/machine learning, molecular dynamics, quantum mechanics, cheminformatics, ADMET/QSPR 
• An excellent communicator with experience in one or more other disciplines of relevance to drug discovery, such as synthetic organic chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, formulation, biochemistry, physical chemistry, or analytical chemistry 
• A team player who enjoys working in interdisciplinary environments and has some background in programming/scripting and/or chemically-aware databases 
• A pharma/biotech expert 

• →Support active drug discovery projects as a lead computational chemist/modeler 
• →Develop modeling strategy for drug discovery projects, and take ownership of execution
• →Collaborate across global, cross-functional teams in multiple languages, accounting for differences in time zone and work culture
• →Prepare and present project updates to senior leadership, collaborators and partners
• →Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members
• →Work closely with internal software development teams to improve our drug discovery technologies

• PhD in computational chemistry, organic chemistry, or physical chemistry
• At least eight years of industry experience
• Fluency in Japanese, business level proficiency in English

• 計算化学・分子モデリングのリード担当として、進行中の創薬プロジェクトを支援する
• 創薬プロジェクトにおけるモデリング戦略を策定し、その実行に責任を持って取り組む
• 時差や働き方・文化の違いを踏まえ、複数の言語を用いて、グローバルかつ部門横断的なチームと協働する
• 経営幹部、共同研究者、パートナーに向けて、プロジェクトの進捗報告資料を作成し、プレゼンテーションを行う
• 若手チームメンバーへの専門的な指導およびメンタリングを行う
• 社内ソフトウェア開発チームと緊密に連携し、当社の創薬技術の改善・高度化に貢献する

• 計算化学、有機化学、または物理化学の博士号
• 8年以上の企業での実務経験
• 流暢な日本語力およびビジネスレベルの英語力
