We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the development of Dapr, a graduated Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) open-source project powering distributed, cloud-native applications. As part of the Runtime team, you will design, build, and maintain features that support reliable application execution across cloud and on-premises environments. You will work on complex distributed systems, with a particular focus on durable execution, workflows, actors, and scheduling. Alongside your engineering responsibilities, you will review community contributions, support releases, and help maintain high standards of reliability and code quality. As the first engineering hire in India, you will also help establish the local team and foster a strong engineering culture. This is a hands-on technical leadership opportunity within a remote-first, international environment.

You will contribute directly to the Dapr runtime while helping grow the engineering presence in India. Your responsibilities will combine software development, open-source collaboration, technical guidance, and local team leadership.

  • Design, develop, and deliver features for the Dapr runtime, taking projects from initial proposals through implementation and release.

  • Review pull requests submitted by internal engineers and open-source contributors, ensuring high standards of correctness, testing, and API design.

  • Investigate and resolve complex distributed systems issues, including race conditions, retries, partial failures, and state persistence during crashes.

  • Write technical proposals and design documentation in the open, and actively participate in community review discussions.

  • Contribute to Dapr release processes, including release candidates, patch releases, and security fixes.

  • Support users and contributors through GitHub and Discord, helping resolve technical questions and encouraging community participation.

  • Mentor new contributors and help engineers become productive within the Dapr codebase and development practices.

  • Support the recruitment and growth of the India engineering team by shaping hiring processes, interviewing candidates, and identifying strong talent.

  • Serve as the local engineering point of contact in India, providing guidance and feedback while coordinating with technical managers responsible for each engineer's day-to-day work and performance.

  • Help establish a strong local engineering culture built around ownership, technical quality, and open collaboration.

  • Work with leadership on India-specific matters, including hiring plans, working hours, and team structure.

  • Represent the organization within the local engineering and open-source communities through meetups, conferences, and contributor outreach.

  • The role remains primarily hands-on, with local leadership responsibilities expanding as the India team grows.
