Our client, a leading captive management organization with operations across several international jurisdictions, is seeking a Compliance Manager to play a central role in the design, implementation, and day-to-day operation of its compliance framework. The role is responsible for managing core compliance activity, financial crime controls, KYC and client due diligence, and captive management-specific regulatory requirements, in line with the expectations of the relevant regulators in each jurisdiction.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain key elements of the day-to-day compliance framework across Bermuda and other relevant captive management jurisdictions, including Europe and North America, ensuring agreed processes are kept current, embedded and operating effectively
  • Provide practical compliance advice, challenge and guidance to captive management leadership and operational teams on regulatory, financial crime and governance matters
  • Manage compliance with BMA requirements, including those relating to licensed insurance managers, insurance companies (including Segregated Accounts Companies) and brokers, AML/ATF, sanctions, KYC, client due diligence, record keeping, reporting and governance controls
  • Coordinate compliance with other applicable local regulatory obligations, liaising with local compliance officers and external providers and working with local management and external advisers where appropriate
  • Lead the delivery of client onboarding, periodic review, enhanced due diligence, sanctions screening and ongoing KYC processes for captive management clients, ensuring issues are identified, escalated and remediated appropriately
  • Deliver compliance monitoring, regulatory horizon scanning, policy reviews, risk assessments, training and management information across the captive management platform
  • Prepare compliance reports for relevant boards, committees and senior management, ensuring reporting is clear, proportionate and focused on material compliance risks, actions and trends
  • Act as the day-to-day compliance contact for regulatory enquiries, inspections, remediation activity and internal reviews, escalating significant matters to senior legal and compliance leadership and other senior stakeholders as required
  • Drive effective coordination with group compliance, Legal, Risk, local management and third-party compliance consultants to ensure consistent standards, effective information flow and timely escalation of material issues
  • Promote a strong compliance, governance and controls culture across the company, supporting good client outcomes, regulatory confidence and disciplined business growth
  • Previous experience in compliance, financial crime, risk, governance or legal roles within insurance, captive management, insurance management or broader financial services
  • Good understanding of Bermuda regulatory expectations relevant to captive management and insurance management businesses, including BMA requirements, AML/ATF, sanctions, KYC and client due diligence controls
  • Awareness of European regulatory requirements and the ability to work effectively with external compliance providers, local advisers and management teams in other captive management jurisdictions, including North America
  • Strong practical understanding of client onboarding, periodic review, enhanced due diligence, beneficial ownership, sanctions screening and financial crime escalation processes, with the ability to manage these processes in a disciplined and effective way
  • Ability to assess materiality, prioritise effectively and provide clear, pragmatic advice in a multi-jurisdictional business environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear compliance reporting for boards, committees and senior management
  • High level interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build effective relationships with local management, client-facing teams, Divisional Compliance, Legal, Risk and external advisers
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage compliance processes, monitoring activity and regulatory requests in a disciplined and timely manner
  • Sound judgement, integrity and discretion, with the credibility to identify issues, challenge constructively and escalate matters appropriately
  • A proactive, delivery-focused approach and commitment to maintaining a strong compliance culture across the company
