Ellie Mental Health–Clarkston is an independently owned outpatient practice providing in-person and telehealth services throughout Michigan. We seek an experienced, fully licensed clinician to serve as Clinical Director and help lead a growing practice grounded in authenticity, compassion, creativity, humor, acceptance, and determination.

This leadership role combines clinical care with responsibility for clinical quality, compliance, staff development, performance management, and sustainable practice growth. The Clinical Director collaborates with the Clinic Owner, Clinic Manager, clinicians, supervisors, billing and credentialing partners.

Clinical Leadership
  • Establish and maintain clinical, documentation, ethical, safety, and quality standards
  • Monitor compliance with Michigan licensing requirements, HIPAA, professional ethics, payer requirements, and clinic policies
  • Review documentation trends and lead corrective action when records are late, inaccurate, copied forward, or clinically insufficient
  • Address clinical concerns, client grievances, risk issues, and continuity-of-care needs
  • Lead clinical meetings, consultation, case review, and professional development
  • Support clinicians with complex cases, treatment planning, boundaries, and ethical decision-making
  • Review policies, procedures, and workflows for clinical accuracy and compliance
Staff Leadership
  • Participate in clinician recruiting, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and clinical orientation
  • Evaluate clinical competence, judgment, documentation readiness, reliability, and private-practice fit
  • Conduct performance reviews and address concerns through coaching, measurable improvement plans, and consistent follow-through
  • Promote a supportive and inclusive culture while maintaining accountability
  • Coordinate licensure supervision only when appropriately qualified and specifically assigned
Practice Growth and Operations
  • Guide referral-development, outreach, and community-partnership priorities
  • Monitor access, inquiry conversion, intake attendance, retention, availability, documentation, and quality trends
  • Collaborate with billing and credentialing partners to resolve clinical, payer, documentation, and service-line issues
  • Evaluate new services and growth opportunities for clinical appropriateness and sustainability
  • Maintain a clinical caseload with a current target of approximately 20 client-facing sessions per week
  • Work a consistent five-day schedule with a predominantly in-office leadership presence and availability for urgent consultation
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in counseling, social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a related field
  • Current, unrestricted Michigan clinical license in good standing, such as LMSW, LPC, LLP, LMFT, or LP
  • Strong outpatient experience with assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, treatment planning, risk assessment, and documentation
  • Demonstrated leadership, consultation, performance-management, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Working knowledge of Michigan behavioral-health requirements, HIPAA, ethics, and insurance-based care
  • Ability to address difficult concerns directly, respectfully, consistently, and in writing
  • Strong organization, communication, judgment, boundaries, and follow-through
  • Proficiency with EHR and office technology; Valant experience is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical Director, program-management, or outpatient leadership experience
  • Experience with documentation audits, corrective action, and quality improvement
  • Experience supervising or mentoring limited-license clinicians
  • Michigan-recognized qualifications to provide licensure supervision
  • Private-practice, billing, credentialing, outreach, or referral-development experience
Compensation and Benefits
This is a W-2 position with compensation reflecting both clinical services and assigned leadership responsibilities. Clinical expectations, protected leadership time, compensation, schedule, decision authority, and performance measures will be clearly documented in the employment offer.

Benefits include paid time off, holiday pay, health coverage, 401(k), annual CEU opportunities, billing support, a furnished clinic environment.

We are excited to meet your authentic self. BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clinicians are encouraged to apply.
