Chemtek is looking for an experienced mechanic or maintenance technician to take charge of keeping our buildings, grounds and equipment in good working order. We need someone who can look at a job, figure out what it will take and get it done.
This is a working lead position. You’ll plan the jobs, get the materials together and do the work. You’ll have help from four skilled employees who also build and install our PavePro spray equipment. Their time is split between maintenance and other duties, so you’ll need to coordinate their availability, give clear direction and work alongside them. Some jobs you’ll handle on your own.
The work is varied. One day you may be repairing equipment or installing plumbing. Another day you may be fixing a roof leak, mowing grass or working on a gravel parking lot. All of it is part of keeping the place running.
What You’ll Do
- Plan and complete maintenance, repairs and improvement projects, including figuring out the labor, materials and tools needed.
- Troubleshoot and repair production equipment and help install new machinery and equipment.
- Handle building repairs and improvements, including plumbing, electrical work, roof repairs and general upkeep.
- Maintain the grounds, including mowing, trimming and keeping gravel parking lots and access areas in good condition.
- Set up a practical preventive maintenance schedule and make sure the work gets done.
- Coordinate help from other employees and arrange for outside contractors when needed.
- Keep management informed about work in progress, repair costs and problems that need attention.
- Respond to urgent repairs, adjust the work schedule when priorities change and keep jobs moving.
- Work safely and keep tools, materials and work areas organized.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance or mechanic experience required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines on short notice.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities at the same time.
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Technical school preferred.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
Schedule
- Full-time position.
- Based at Chemtek’s Yanceyville manufacturing facility (on-site).
- Primarily Monday through Friday.
- Occasional early, late, or on-call availability may be required for urgent repairs or equipment installations.
Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay.
- Company-funded QSEHRA health reimbursement benefit for eligible employees and family members.
- 401(k) with company contribution.
- Paid holidays, PTO, vacation, and sick leave.
- Eight additional paid days off during Chemtek’s Christmas holiday period.
- Opportunity to grow with Chemtek’s expanding service organization.
If you take pride in keeping things running, stay calm and solve problems when the pressure is on, and know that good maintenance is what makes everything Chemtek builds and ships possible, we want to hear from you.
