1Password is growing. We’ve surpassed $500M in ARR and we’re continuing to accelerate, earning a spot on the Forbes Cloud 100 for four years in a row and teaming up with iconic partners like Oracle Red Bull Racing.

At 1Password, we’re building the foundation for a safe, productive digital future. Our mission is to unleash employee productivity without compromising security by ensuring every identity is authentic, every application sign-in is secure, and every device is trusted. We innovated the market-leading enterprise password manager and pioneered Unified Access Management, a new cybersecurity category built for the way people and AI agents work today. As one of the most loved brands in cybersecurity, we take a human-centric approach in everything from product strategy to user experience. Over 180,000 businesses, from Fortune 100 leaders to the world’s most innovative AI companies, trust 1Password to help their teams securely adopt the SaaS and AI tools they need to do their best work.

If you're excited about the opportunity to contribute to the digital safety of millions, to work alongside a team of curious, driven individuals, and to solve hard problems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, then we want to hear from you. Come join us and help shape a safer, simpler digital future.

We’re looking for an experienced security leader to lead and mature the Product Security function here at 1Password. You will be responsible for:

  • Application Security, overseeing our SDLC program.

  • Data and Device Security, ensuring that 1Password continues to deliver secure solutions that meet our customers needs.

  • Privacy Engineering, building systems and controls to ensure that our data management practices meet the highest privacy standards.

  • Security Research, enriching conversations in the security industry with credible and novel research and publications.

As the Sr. Director of Product Security, you will set the strategy, build and scale programs, and partner with engineering, product, and security leadership to reduce risk while enabling innovation. You’ll manage a team of highly skilled security professionals, serve as a trusted advisor to the CISO, and act as a thought leader both inside and outside the organization. As a member of the security leadership team, you will also partner with other leaders across security and the company to drive great security outcomes for our customers

You will report directly to the CISO.

Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams are thoughtfully integrating AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. In practice, that looks like engineers using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier, product managers synthesizing user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototyping and iterating with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI the same way we approach security: with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation before anything ships to customers.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

  • 9+ years of progressive experience in security, with at least 5+ years leading security teams/programs at scale.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related fields; or equivalent work experience

  • Deep expertise in Application Security, Privacy, and Secure SDLC programs.

  • Experience overseeing Security Research activities and engaging the security research community.

  • Strong track record of embedding security and privacy into engineering processes and influencing product development.

  • Proven experience leading security teams in high-growth technology or security-focused companies.

  • Passion for fostering psychological safety and stability in high stress environments.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to convey complex security issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives and boards.

  • Thought leader with visibility in the security community (public speaking, open-source contributions, bug bounty engagement, etc.) a strong plus.

  • Experience leading security initiatives that support and/or incorporate AI capabilities.

  • Demonstrated software development experience with Go, Ruby on Rails, shell scripting, python, or other languages.

  • Experience collaborating across departments such as with internal business or engineering units, external incident response teams, and research teams.
