The Safety Specialist protects Team Members, supports regulatory compliance, and helps prevent workplace injuries in the manufacturing environment.

  • Maintain compliant policies, procedures, and records.
  • Maintain a visible presence in daily operations.

Responsibilities

  1. →Compliance and Audits: Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local requirements; conduct inspections and correct hazards.
  2. →Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and trends, and verify corrective actions.
  3. →Case Management: Coordinate occupational health, ergonomics, security, and workers’ compensation resources and outcomes.
  4. →Training: Deliver and document new-hire, process, powered industrial truck, and refresher training.
  5. →Hazard Control: Assess manufacturing hazards and implement corrective and preventive controls.
  6. →Emergency Response: Lead the Emergency Response Team; maintain plans and conduct drills for fires, spills, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
  7. →Communication: Promote safety awareness and maintain facility signage and communication boards.
  8. →Recordkeeping: Maintain incident, inspection, training, and compliance records and submit required reports.
  9. →Environmental Management: Support ISO 14001 objectives, procedures, audits, corrective actions, training, and documentation.
  10. →Gemba Walks: Conduct routine workplace reviews, assign corrective actions, and verify effectiveness.
  11. →Collaboration: Work with production, maintenance, engineering, human resources, and other departments to resolve safety and environmental concerns.
  • →Lead cross-functional incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • →Build accountability and leader ownership of the safety culture.
  • Communication: Write, speak, listen, and present effectively.
  • Collaboration: Build productive cross-functional relationships.
  • Initiative: Remove barriers, drive results, and improve processes.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze data, identify causes, and recommend solutions.
  • Decision-Making: Use sound judgment and available data.
  • Project Management: Plan, prioritize, and complete work.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in environmental or safety science, a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years of safety experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and applicable state requirements.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Three to five years of safety experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ISO management systems.
  • Full-time, exempt; primarily Monday–Friday, with support for all shifts as needed.
  • Work is performed in office and manufacturing areas with exposure to noise, fumes, moving equipment, and vibration. Required personal protective equipment must be worn.
  • Requires frequent standing, speaking, hearing, reaching, and hand use, with occasional walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Occasional overnight regional and international travel required.
  • This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.
