Job purpose:

SCRUM Masters are also known as guardians of the SCRUM Team. The SCRUM Master is responsible for resolving issues with and controlling SCRUM processes.

The SCRUM Master will have to plan, track, report and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress as well as ensure the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration.

Reporting to enable leaders of the organisation to make informed decisions and to act on the information.


Key accountabilities:

  • Training, coaching and guidance to teams internal and external in the use of agile practices and to support product owners / project manager
  • Facilitating all SCRUM related ceremonies
  • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Facilitate planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews including demos, and retrospectives for each project
  • Take responsibility of team impediments and their resolution
  • Encourage the team to deliver on their commitments
  • Escalate delivery issues and risks as they arise
  • Measure / track project performance using appropriate tools and metrics
  • Project management and coordination of projects on time, within scope and budget through close collaboration with the Product Owner
  • Preparation of monthly tracking reports of projects to Senior Management and other stakeholders
  • Develop training material

 

Technical / professional qualifications:

  • Certified SCRUMMaster® Certification
  • Tertiary Qualification


Key performance indicators:

  • Sprint goals delivery – Enables the team to accept accountability and helps understand how to use SCRUM principles to set and attain their goals
  • Measure and Report – Be able to measure and report success in achieving sprint goals. (burn up, burn down or other agreed-upon metrics). Setup tools that help the team with daily work and for managing team activities. Also measured by how well these items are communicated to interested stakeholders
  • Continuous improvement – Responsibility to ensure it happens through the ceremonies and activities of daily work, review, retrospective, and backlog refinement
  • Delivering value – value delivered to the customer
  • Timesheets and time tracking accuracy and on time submission


Skills, know-how and experience:

  • Experience in a SCRUM master role
  • Familiarity with software development
  • Excellent knowledge of SCRUM techniques and artifacts (such as definition of done, user stories, automated testing, backlog refinement)
  • Good knowledge of other Agile frameworks (SCRUM, Kanban, XP)
  • Excellent communication and servant leadership skills
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability
  • Outstanding organizational skills

 

Preferred:

  • 3+ years’ experience within an agile development environment as a SCRUM Master
    • Experienced in the following technologies
  • Jira, Confluence
  • Azure Boards (Part of Azure DevOps)
  • SCRUM Reporting, SCRUM rituals
    • Agile project management
