Join Agilent’s ICP-MS Software R&D team and help create software for advanced analytical instruments that support important work in laboratories around the world. Our technology is used in chemical analysis, environmental testing, and life science applications, and this role offers the opportunity to apply your software engineering skills to products that have clear real-world impact.
This is a strong opportunity for engineers who enjoy thoughtful product development, stable long-term engineering work, and solving technical problems in collaboration with others. You may already have experience in instrument control or Windows desktop development, or you may come from adjacent areas such as embedded systems, industrial software, device communication, automation, or other software environments where reliability, maintainability, and quality are important.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software used to operate and control ICP-MS instruments.
- Build robust, reliable, and maintainable software features that support instrument performance, usability, and quality.
- Investigate technical challenges, analyze issues, and contribute to effective long-term solutions.
- Collaborate with software engineers, scientists, and cross-functional partners to turn requirements into practical product solutions.
- Contribute to design discussions, technical documentation, integration, and product release activities.
- Continuously learn new technologies, tools, and domain knowledge relevant to analytical instrument software.
Requirements
~1 min readWe are open to candidates from a broad range of software engineering backgrounds. If you have built software in environments that require careful design, debugging, long-term maintenance, or close collaboration with other technical teams, your experience may be highly relevant here. Direct experience in scientific instruments is welcome, but not essential.
We are especially interested in engineers with strong object-oriented programming foundations and a genuine interest in building reliable products over time. Candidates from C#/.NET, Windows applications, embedded software, industrial systems, data processing, backend systems, or other complex software environments are all encouraged to apply.
For engineers in Japan who value craftsmanship, technical ownership, and meaningful global collaboration, this role offers the opportunity to help shape the future of ICP-MS software from Japan, a key development hub, while partnering with colleagues across functions and sites worldwide.
If you do not meet every preferred qualification exactly, we still encourage you to apply. We value strong software fundamentals, learning agility, professionalism, and the motivation to contribute to high-quality product development in a collaborative environment.
- Experience in software development using object-oriented programming concepts.
- Ability to understand, modify, and improve existing code in a structured and maintainable way.
- Experience or interest in technical investigation, debugging, and problem solving.
- Interest in working on software connected to physical systems, instruments, devices, or data-rich applications.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and build domain knowledge in analytical instruments.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with local and global team members.
- Japanese language ability for day-to-day work, and sufficient written English for technical collaboration.
Nice to Have
