Job Description Summary:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting day-to-day quality initiatives within manufacturing operations to ensure product conformity, process control, and customer satisfaction. This position works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to identify and resolve quality issues, reduce defects, improve process capability, and drive continuous improvement efforts. The Quality Engineer serves as a key resource in root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, audit support, and ongoing monitoring of quality performance across automated assembly, CNC machining, and progressive stamping operations. This role reports directly to the Quality Manager and plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with the site's Quality Management System (QMS).

Duties/Responsibilities:
Support daily manufacturing quality activities and provide hands-on assistance in resolving production quality issues.
Investigate nonconforming material, customer complaints, internal rejects, scrap, and rework issues using structured problem-solving techniques.
Lead and facilitate root cause analysis activities utilizing tools such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, PFMEA, and statistical analysis methods.
Develop, implement, and monitor corrective and preventive actions to ensure sustainable solutions.
Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering to improve process capability, reduce variation, and eliminate recurring defects.
Maintain and update control plans, inspection plans, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and quality procedures.
Analyze quality metrics including DPPM, first-pass yield, scrap, rework, and customer returns to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Participate in new product introduction activities by supporting risk assessments, process validations, capability studies, and inspection planning.
Perform process audits, product audits, and layered audits to verify compliance and process effectiveness.
Support customer and third-party audits and assist in addressing audit findings and corrective actions.
Review engineering changes and manufacturing process changes to assess quality risks and ensure adequate controls are established.
Work with Supplier Quality and Purchasing teams to address supplier-related quality concerns and improve incoming material quality.
Assist in calibration, gauge control, and measurement system analysis (MSA) activities.
Develop and maintain quality reports, dashboards, and KPI metrics for management review.
Provide quality training and guidance to manufacturing personnel as needed.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost reduction, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications - Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
3-5 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience supporting production quality improvement and corrective action activities.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and customer requirements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data analysis.
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred
Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or other ASQ certification.
Experience in connector manufacturing, machining, stamping, or automated assembly environments.
Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, SPC, and MSA.
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
Experience utilizing quality management and ERP systems.
Automotive manufacturing or quality engineering experience, including familiarity with automotive quality requirements and customer-specific expectations.
Continuous-flow, high volume production experience focused on process capability, defect prevention, and rapid resolution of production issues.
Knowledge/Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to effectively communicate quality concerns and improvement opportunities across all levels of the organization.
Knowledge of statistical process control and process capability concepts.
Ability to lead cross-functional corrective action activities.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, vision systems, CMMs, and related inspection tools.
