The hiring rate for this role is $28.60 - $35.74.

  • Schedules and coordinates meetings for Director, Executive Staff, and department staff members
  • Maintains/updates Director calendar of commitments and activities
  • Serves as a key staff liaison for Council policy committee(s) and other meetings including preparing the agenda; approving and compiling the meeting packet; taking and transcribing minutes
  • Receives and responds to requests for information including Council and Management requests
  • Maintains, modifies, and updates database information for specialized departmental functions
  • Assists in preparations for department special events
  • Drafts, edits, proofreads, and prepares correspondence
  • Processes purchasing, accounting, and other financially related paperwork
  • Entering data, payment and invoices into automated financial systems
  • Receiving, responding to, and routing calls and visitors
  • Providing customer service and responding to inquiries in-person, over the phone, and electronically
  • Providing administrative support to department managers, supervisors and staff
  • Compiling and generating reports
  • Producing and/or editing correspondence, financial reports, memos, meeting agendas, and other documents
  • Routing internal documents, maintaining internal phone lists, and other general office tasks
  • Performing special projects and other complex administrative duties as assigned
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

The award-winning operation consists of seven divisions (Golf, Open Space and Natural Resources, Parks Operations, Planning, Design and Construction, Recreation, Business Services and Communications) that collectively manage more than 8,000 acres of open space, 100+ parks, 180+ athletic fields, over 100 miles of trails, three nature centers, two reservoirs, five recreation centers, five golf courses, indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and one of Colorado's largest municipal urban forestry programs.

This job performs a variety of administrative and financial duties with highly visible contact and requires confidentiality, discretion, and independence of action.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered

  • Associate's Degree in finance, business, office administration or directly related field preferred
  • Experience preparing official documents and presentations

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • At least two (2) years of financial and administrative support experience

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures; general business practices; report formatting and records maintenance; and office management principles

  • Excellent customer service skills over the phone and in-person
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Skill in the use of windows-based programs
  • Skilled in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors
  • Work independently without extensive oversight
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials
  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Handle sensitive information to maintain confidentiality

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

  • Sedentary physical work that involves moving no more than 10 pounds at a time
  • Clear vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
  • Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer, phone

  • Works primarily indoors

  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment

Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
