Quick Summary
their impact is felt not just in their own portfolio, but in the capability and quality of the broader team.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAs Avalara scales its Go Live function to support New Product Introductions (NPI) and enterprise-level customer growth, we need Senior Analysts who do more than execute — they lead, design, and elevate. The Go Live Senior Analyst (I3) operates at the intersection of complex enterprise implementation delivery, cross-functional product collaboration, and practice development.
Where the I3 Analyst owns individual customer implementation success, the I3 Senior Analyst owns the quality and scalability of how implementations are delivered — for the most complex customers, across new and evolving products, and in close partnership with Product Management, Sales, Engineering, and Customer Success.
This role exists to accelerate Avalara's ability to onboard enterprise customers at scale, introduce new products effectively, and continuously raise the implementation standard across the Go Live team. The I3 is a force multiplier: their impact is felt not just in their own portfolio, but in the capability and quality of the broader team.
How This Role Elevates Avalara
- For customers: Enterprise and multi-product customers receive expert implementation guidance, proactive risk management, and deep technical partnership — resulting in faster time-to-value and stronger long-term adoption.
- For the team: The Senior Analyst sets the implementation quality standard — authoring playbooks, mentoring I3 analysts, and identifying process improvements that raise team-wide performance.
- For the business: Directly supports ARR growth by enabling complex enterprise wins, supporting the sales cycle with pre-sales expertise, and accelerating NPI readiness across implementation teams.
- For our AI-first strategy: Designs and deploys AI-driven implementation workflows at a team level — moving beyond personal productivity to scalable automation that benefits the entire Go Live function.
- Lead customer implementations involving multiple Avalara products and enterprise-level platforms including complex ERP, POS, and ecommerce environments (e.g., NetSuite, Dynamics 365, Salesforce Commerce, SAP).
- Act as the primary implementation authority for high-complexity, high-stakes customer engagements — setting strategy, managing scope, and driving outcomes from kickoff to Go Live.
- Clearly define, articulate, and manage scope of work for client-initiated implementation and data service projects, including change management when scope evolves.
- Partner with Avalara Product Management, Sales, and Customer Success teams to develop implementation approach documentation, onboarding frameworks, and training materials for new product launches.
- Serve as a subject matter expert during NPI cycles — identifying implementation risks, documenting configuration requirements, and ensuring Go Live readiness before product release.
- Identify bugs, integration gaps, or UX friction during NPI implementations and partner with Engineering to track and resolve them.
- Own and evolve Go Live practice standards — documenting business processes, designing implementation playbooks, and proposing best practices for sales and use tax automation onboarding.
- Develop and document business requirements related to implementation workflows, data transformation, and cross-system reporting.
- Lead testing plan design and execution for complex implementations, ensuring customers go live on validated, stable configurations.
- Mentor and provide structured guidance to I2 Analysts — reviewing implementation quality, sharing expertise, and accelerating the development of junior team members.
- Collaborate with Sales and Account Management to support pre-sales activities — including scoping, solution design input, and customer-facing technical presentations.
- Engage cross-functionally across Product, Engineering, Support, and Finance to resolve systemic implementation blockers and drive process improvements at scale.
- Represent the Go Live team's perspective in strategic planning discussions, NPI readiness reviews, and cross-departmental initiatives.
- Monitor project health across assigned accounts — proactively identifying risk factors, intervening early, and resolving escalations with speed and precision.
- Provide strategic guidance to customers on best practices and use cases across a range of business models and tax compliance needs.
- Support customers in developing and executing testing plans, ensuring technical readiness before Go Live.
- Design and deploy AI-powered workflows at a team level — building reusable Glean AI agents, prompt libraries, and automation tools that improve implementation quality and speed across the Go Live function.
- Share AI innovations, document their impact, and drive adoption across I2 and I3 peers.
A successful Go Live Senior Analyst (I3) at the end of 12 months will have:
- Led multiple enterprise or multi-product implementations to successful Go Live with measurably shorter cycle times and low escalation rates, demonstrating ownership at a higher complexity tier than I2.
- Delivered at least two NPI readiness contributions — documented implementation playbooks, training materials, or bug reports — that were formally adopted by the Go Live or Product teams.
- Authored or significantly improved at least two Go Live practice standards or playbooks, with measurable adoption and quality impact across the team.
- Mentored at least two I2 Analysts with demonstrable improvement in their implementation quality metrics or time-to-competency.
- Built and deployed at least one AI-powered workflow (e.g., a Glean agent, automation script, or prompt framework) that generated measurable time savings or quality improvements at a team level — not just personally.
- Supported at least one pre-sales engagement in partnership with the Sales or Account Management team, contributing to a customer expansion or new business outcome.
AI Expectations
Avalara is an AI-first company. The Go Live Senior Analyst (I3) is expected to operate as an AI Bar Raiser — not just embedding AI into their own work, but actively raising AI capability across the Go Live team.
Specific expectations include:
- Design and build reusable AI tools — including Glean AI agents, automated documentation workflows, and AI-assisted risk detection models — that are shared and adopted across the team.
- Use AI to analyze implementation portfolio data at scale, identifying patterns in at-risk implementations, NPI friction points, or recurring ERP configuration issues, and translating insights into proactive action.
- Deploy AI to accelerate NPI documentation, training material generation, and business requirements capture — dramatically compressing the time from product release to team readiness.
- Use AI to support customer communication at scale — generating implementation status summaries, tailored onboarding guidance, and escalation documentation with speed and precision.
- Coach I2 Analysts on applied AI usage, sharing effective practices and helping peers move from casual familiarity to embedded, outcome-driven AI workflows.
- Apply AI responsibly and securely, in full compliance with Avalara's data governance and AI ethics policies.
Candidates must demonstrate specific, quantified examples of AI usage that improved team-level outcomes — not just personal efficiency. Senior Analysts who cannot clearly articulate their AI impact across a team or function do not meet Avalara's AI Bar Raiser standard for this level.

- Proven ability to lead complex, enterprise-level software implementations across multiple products and ERP/ecommerce environments.
- Strong ability to articulate process logic and technical architecture — including design and delivery of functional and technical presentations to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of accounting and tax processes, including sales and use tax compliance automation concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional conversations and drive alignment.
- Experience contributing to practice improvement — documenting business processes, designing best practices, or owning team-level standards.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset — takes initiative at a team level, holds peers accountable with coaching (not criticism), and drives outcomes without requiring direction.
- Embodies Avalara's Success Traits: Ownership, Simplicity, Curiosity, Adaptability, Urgency, Optimism, and Humility.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Hands-on experience configuring or integrating enterprise ERPs such as NetSuite, Dynamics 365, SAP, Salesforce Commerce, Sage, or WooCommerce.
- Proficiency with Salesforce, Gong, Gainsight, Jira, or equivalent CRM and project tracking platforms.
- Prior exposure to tax automation software implementation or tax-related roles.
- Experience in NPI or product launch support — working alongside Product Management or Engineering to prepare implementation teams for new releases.
- Familiarity with APIs, webhooks, and integration architecture concepts.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring or developing junior team members.
At Avalara, we hire only those who raise the bar — not those who merely meet it. A Go Live Senior Analyst (I3) who is a Bar Raiser:
- Improves the average performance of the team simply by being present — through coaching, example, and a consistent commitment to quality.
- Brings data, structure, and strategic thinking to conversations about risk, prioritization, process design, and escalation.
- Challenges assumptions respectfully and proposes better approaches — even when it's uncomfortable.
- Leaves every customer engagement, process, team interaction, and system in a measurably stronger state than they found it.
- Continuously develops technical, functional, and AI capabilities — and actively helps peers do the same.
- Demonstrates strong judgment in tradeoff decisions, especially when they affect customers, timelines, or team capacity.
Being a Bar Raiser at the I3 level means raising the entire team's execution quality — not just excelling individually.
