✓Apply practical laboratory knowledge in microbiology and biomedical research environments, including procedures, workflow, safety, and equipment used in BSL 2, BSL 3, BSL 4, ABSL 3, and ABSL 4 laboratories.

✓Provide planning and coordination support for scientific operations across RML’s high-containment and ABSL facilities, ensuring alignment with safety policies, best practices, and research programs.

✓Campus Master Planning & Facility Modernization

✓Support OOM and the Office of Research Facilities (ORF) in coordinating research stakeholder engagement for the RML campus master plan update, helping gather scientific requirements, operational constraints, and facility improvement needs.

✓Assist planning and project execution related to upgrading and redesigning RML’s BSL-2, -3, -4 and ABSL 3 and -4 laboratories and animal spaces, including modernization of research support infrastructure, space efficiency, and scientific workflow improvements.

✓Scientific Equipment Programs & Application Development

✓Develop custom applications and centralized data tools to manage RML’s Biosafety Cabinet (BSC) program, including inventory, certification tracking, scheduling, and compliance monitoring.

✓Assist biomedical equipment technicians by creating or improving tools for centralized tracking of scientific equipment, lifecycle planning, and maintenance needs.

✓Coordinate with ORF, ORS, OWS, and program managers to ensure scientific equipment programs align with facility capacity, long-range planning, and operational risk assessments.

✓Assist the Associate Director of OOM in space tracking, allocation, and master space planning across NIAID/DIR offices at RML.

✓Work collaboratively with NIAID’s Office of Workplace Solutions (OWS) to ensure space utilization aligns with scientific program expansion, facility constraints, and upcoming renovations.

✓Represent research program interests in planning meetings, design reviews, and stakeholder coordination for in-house renovation projects involving scientific and administrative spaces.

✓Gather researcher input, ensure high-containment facility standards are integrated, and support documentation and planning activities for renovation project phases.

✓General Scientific Operations & Program Support

✓Support short and long range planning for scientific programs, capital equipment replacement needs, and facility modernization projects as identified by DIR and OOM leadership.

✓Assist with data gathering, workflow assessments, operational analysis, and development of recommendations that strengthen RML’s scientific mission.

✓Prepare technical briefings, status updates, analytic reports, and decision-support materials for senior leadership.

✓BS/BA or higher in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Biomedical Engineering, or related scientific discipline.

✓Laboratory experience in BSL‑2, BSL‑3, BSL‑4, ABSL‑3, or ABSL‑4 environments strongly preferred.

✓Familiarity with laboratory workflow, research operations, biological safety cabinet usage, and high-containment facility requirements.

✓Experience in scientific facility planning, equipment lifecycle management, and operational program development.

✓Ability to design or support development of tracking applications, centralized databases, or digital management tools for scientific equipment programs.

✓Demonstrated ability to organize multidisciplinary scientific stakeholders, coordinate planning activities, and communicate technical requirements effectively.

✓Experience working with facility management and operational organizations is highly desirable.

✓Excellent communication, analytical, and reporting skills.

✓Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and support complex planning efforts in high‑containment research environments.
