Job Title: Project Manager I, Shoring and Foundations (NOC 70010)

Job Summary:

Hall Shoring and Foundations Ltd. is a specialist deep foundations and shoring contractor serving the Western Canadian civil construction market, with recognized expertise in Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling, Full Displacement Piles (FDP), Cased Secant Piling (CSP), drilled caissons, secant and contiguous pile walls, ground improvement, slope stabilization, in-house load testing, and design-build geotechnical engineering.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager I to lead the delivery of complex deep foundation and shoring projects from inception through client turnover. This is a senior technical role requiring a strong command of deep foundation systems combined with the project management discipline to direct multi-disciplinary field teams, administer contracts and procurement, manage quality and safety programs, and drive schedule and cost performance across multiple concurrent projects. The successful candidate will work directly with Hall's senior leadership on project planning, risk management, and client engagement, and will play a meaningful role in mentoring junior project management staff and field supervisors as Hall continues to grow its Alberta operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate deep foundation and shoring projects from start-up through close-out in accordance with contract schedules, specifications, budgets, and Hall's Project Management Manual.
  • Prepare and maintain project work plans, construction schedules, and milestone plans, and monitor progress against established schedules across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Contribute to project budget estimates at start-up and manage cost performance throughout execution, including interpretation and application of cost reports generated in HCSS and related tools.
  • Lead and control all change management activities, including the review, preparation, negotiation, and administration of change notices, design revisions, RFIs, and RFQs, with close attention to contractual response timelines.
  • Thoroughly review and understand project contracts, ensuring that all formal and informal project correspondence aligns with contract language and requirements, and that response times are adhered to on all items, including claims.
  • Manage the procurement process across multiple projects, including subcontractor, trade, and supplier negotiations, award recommendations, and compilation of purchase orders and subcontract documents in accordance with Hall's Procurement Manual.
  • Direct the purchase of project materials (including rebar, concrete mix designs, casings, drilling fluids and polymers, and ancillary supply) and manage supplier performance.
  • Review and approve subcontractor and supplier progress applications, payment certificates, and invoices.
  • Take the lead on, or delegate while remaining accountable for, the project quality control program and quality management system, and compile the final quality turnover package for the client at project completion.
  • Lead project meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, consulting engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, to monitor project progression and resolve technical, commercial, and scheduling issues.
  • Liaise with consulting engineers and in-house design staff on technical direction, design clarifications, and load testing programs where applicable.
  • Identify, assess, and manage opportunities and risks across the project portfolio to achieve the best possible impact on schedule, cost, and client outcomes, and communicate assessments and proposed responses to senior management.
  • Ensure active participation in and compliance with Hall's corporate Health and Safety Program and all applicable occupational health and safety legislation (including the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation, and Code) by the project team.
  • Conduct regular project site visits and engage with site supervisors (Foreman/Superintendent), with frequency determined by project phase and requirements.
  • Provide strong leadership to project team members, capitalizing on individual and group strengths to ensure project targets are achieved.
  • Mentor and develop junior Project Managers, project engineers, coordinators, and field supervisors, providing guidance on contract administration, procurement, quality management, and overall project delivery practice.
  • Represent Hall Shoring and Foundations in project and commercial discussions with clients, consultants, and subcontractors, and support senior leadership in client relationship management and dispute resolution.
  • Support senior project management staff with portfolio-level planning, scheduling, and reporting tasks.
