Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.
We are searching for a tool design engineer with experience designing tools and equipment for large carbon fiber parts and assemblies for aircraft production. This person should be well versed in all aspects of the tool design process from concept sketches to implementing tools on the production floor. . This job is based out in our Heredia, Costa Rica office.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Design, develop, and improve manufacturing aids and equipment such as jigs, fixtures and molds.
- →Optimize customer design standards for performance, consistency, and scalability
- →Execute high-precision layouts utilizing GD&T to eliminate ambiguity in fabrication.
- →Coordinate and support tooling activities across a wide range of departments including airframe design, structural analysis, planning, vendors & suppliers, manufacturing, production, quality assurance, testing and tool fabrication.
- →Apply Project Management Methodologies in the assigned projects.
- 5+ years of related experience as a tool design engineer or mechanical design engineer in aerospace or highly regulated industry.
- Experience working with 3D CAD Software (CATIA, NX, Solidworks, or similar)
- Experience in Mechanical design and prototype manufacturing in a professional environment.
- Project Management Experience.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and customers.
- English: C1
- Familiar with GD&T and common drafting practices in compliance with ASME Y14.5 & Y14.100
- FEA Experience.
- Product Design certifications or similar.
- Tool Design Experience.
- Inspection Fixture Design experience.
- Data Science certifications or relevant experience.
- English: C2
