The Project Surveyor II leverages prior surveying experience to oversee the preparation of survey documents, calculations, research, and details for multiple projects simultaneously. This position involves using technical knowledge to actively participate in both internal and external meetings, making recommendations based on research, observations, and experience. The Project Surveyor II works both individually and collaboratively with team members, leading the coordination and preparation of survey documents. Additionally, they utilize surveying software and tools to create, modify, and analyze documents, review and improve concepts and contribute to the preparation of technical reports. The Project Surveyor II also troubleshoots technical issues and stays up to date with the latest surveying trends and technologies, and functions primarily as an office-based technical lead, overseeing the preparation and coordination of survey deliverables across multiple projects. Targeted field involvement is maintained to support boundary verification, construction staking oversight, staff development, and risk mitigation; typical time allocation is approximately 80–90% office and 10–20% field, depending on project needs. This position typically reports to the (Sr) Team Lead.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Support other Survey staff both office and field in daily planning, coordination, and completion of projects including drawings, legal descriptions, calculations, research etc.
  • Perform and/or direct survey tasks on a variety of projects by completing exhibit drafting, survey calculations, legal descriptions, and other deliverables.
  • Gain experience and knowledge in all facets of surveying in both field and office settings including preliminary surveying, construction staking and calculations.
  • Provide technical advice regarding survey topics to client and managerial personnel.
  • Provide mark-ups to identify missed items or changes in drawings as requested from the client or revieing agencies.
  • Supervising direct reports may be a key responsibility of this job. Refer to the “Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities” sections below for specific expectations.
  • Establish team composition, and balance workload amongst team members to fulfill project objectives while coordinating with client managers.
  • Motivate team members and create a professional, positive work environment by providing mentoring, coaching, and team training.
  • Identify and deliver career path objectives and development opportunities for all team members through consistent guidance and feedback.
  • Perform one-on-one meetings with direct reports on a monthly cadence and participate in all scheduled performance reviews.
  • Review and approve all timesheets (and timecards, as applicable) on a weekly basis.
    • Creates redline mark-ups for others based on review of survey documents.
    • Responsible for resolving client surveying and project issues.
    • Ensure all drawings created are following company drawing and CAD standards.
    • Elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
    • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment to meet project deadlines.
    • Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the technical aspects of projects.
    • Regular contact with assigned clients and attend client meetings.
    • Responsible for resolving client surveying and project issues.
    • Prepare and assist in the preparation of and prepare surveying project proposals.
    • Ensure effective surveying techniques according to industry standards on client projects.
    • Accountable for the successful completion of surveying projects.
    • As needed, assist with fieldwork associated with boundary and topographic surveys and construction staking.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

      Position Requirements 
      • Associate’s degree or certificate in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology or related field, with a minimum of 8 years related experience and/or training; Or High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), with a minimum of 10 years of related experience and/or training is required.
      • NSPS CST Level 4 is preferred.
      • Professional Surveyor (PS) licensure is preferred.
      • Computer skills necessary to enter daily timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.
      • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
      • Basic knowledge of TBC and Access.
