The Campus Security Operator supports the safety and security of Clayton's Home Office campus by providing a professional, highly visible armed security presence and responding to security-related incidents, emergencies, alarms, and access-control concerns. This position helps maintain a safe and secure environment for Team Members, visitors, contractors, and other stakeholders while working an assigned swing shift and exercising sound judgment and independent decision-making during periods when department leadership may not be on site. The role also supports Clayton's broader safety and security objectives by contributing to security initiatives and providing assistance to other Clayton locations as business needs require. 

 

 

  • Provides a professional, highly visible armed security presence throughout Clayton's Home Office campus by conducting routine and directed patrols of buildings, parking areas, grounds, entrances, restricted areas, and other security-sensitive locations; maintains situational awareness to identify and respond appropriately to suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, and security vulnerabilities. 
  • Responds to security incidents, alarms, emergencies, and requests for assistance, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, security threats, workplace violence concerns, evacuations, shelter-in-place events, lockdowns, and severe weather situations. 
  • Conducts preliminary investigations within the scope of the position by gathering relevant information, interviewing witnesses, identifying available evidence, establishing timelines, and escalating matters when additional investigation or response is required. 
  • Enforces established security policies, procedures, and access-control requirements while assisting Team Members, visitors, executives, and contractors with security-related needs in a professional and service-oriented manner. 
  • Exercises independent judgment during assigned swing-shift hours when department leadership is not on site, managing routine security matters and determining when incidents require escalation to department leadership, law enforcement, fire/EMS, or other emergency resources. 
  • Monitors and operates CCTV/video surveillance, access-control, alarm, license plate recognition, and other security technologies to support campus security operations, investigations, and incident response. 
  • Reviews, exports, and preserves video or other security-system evidence in accordance with established procedures to support investigations and security-related requests. 
  • Assists Team Members with access-control and badge-related issues; identifies security technology failures or deficiencies, performs appropriate basic troubleshooting, and escalates technical issues when additional support is required. 
  • Supports the testing, implementation, and deployment of new or updated security technologies and integrated security platforms. 
  • Provides security support to Clayton locations across the enterprise as directed, including physical security assessments, investigations, and responses to elevated security concerns at Home Centers, manufacturing facilities, and other Clayton properties. 
  • Assists with security projects, special events, executive visits, and other enterprise security initiatives based on business and operational needs. 
  • Supports the implementation and deployment of security technology at Clayton locations and shares relevant observations, lessons learned, and security practices with the broader Safety & Security team.             
  • Documents security incidents, unusual activity, investigations, and identified concerns accurately and promptly and maintains associated records in accordance with established reporting, recordkeeping, and confidentiality requirements. 
  • Identifies recurring security issues or emerging trends through incident information and communicates relevant observations to department leadership. 
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of security policies and procedures based on operational needs and observed security conditions. 

 

 

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of related experience in corporate security, law enforcement, military, corrections or related security field
  • Knowledge of security operations, physical security practices, access control, incident response, and emergency procedures. 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate independent decisions when responding to security incidents, particularly when department leadership is not on site. 
  • Ability to assess evolving situations, establish priorities, and determine when an incident requires escalation to department leadership, law enforcement, fire/EMS, or other emergency resources. 
  • Skill in operating and supporting CCTV/video surveillance, access-control, alarm, license plate recognition, and other security technologies used in daily security operations. 
  • Ability to gather relevant information, interview witnesses, identify available evidence, establish timelines, and support preliminary investigations within the scope of the position. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully with Team Members, visitors, contractors, executives, emergency responders, and other stakeholders. 
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to prepare accurate, objective, and professional incident and investigative documentation. 
  • Ability to use appropriate de-escalation techniques and remain calm, professional, and attentive during emergencies, confrontational situations, or rapidly changing circumstances. 
  • Strong situational awareness with the ability to recognize suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, security vulnerabilities, and other potential security concerns. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately safeguard sensitive security, investigative, and Team Member information. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with the broader Safety & Security team and other business partners. 
  • Ability to provide professional, service-oriented assistance while consistently applying established security policies, procedures, and access-control requirements. 
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new or evolving physical security technologies, systems, procedures, and operational practices. 

 

  • A valid Tennessee armed security guard license and applicable firearms certification are required, or the Team Member must be able to obtain them within 90 days of hire. 
  • A valid driver's license is required

 


  • This position requires regular standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods while conducting security patrols throughout buildings, parking areas, grounds, and other campus locations.
  • The role requires the ability to move throughout the campus and respond promptly to security incidents, alarms, emergencies, evacuations, and other situations requiring an immediate physical presence.
  • The Team Member may work both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather and environmental conditions while performing patrol and response duties.
  • The position requires the ability to wear and carry required security equipment during assigned working hours and to safely perform the essential duties associated with an armed security role.
  • This is a swing shift position and will typically operate 11am-8pm
