Role Purpose/Summary

As part of the Test & Validation team, the Mechatronics Test Engineer designs, develops and integrates the Mechanical and Electrical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE / EGSE) and data acquisition systems used to test ClearSpace hardware. Working from the specifications provided by the robotics or mechanism engineer, the role delivers reliable ground support equipment and acquisition software that enable the functional and environmental test benches to operate safely and repeatably.

Role Responsibilities

  • Design and develop the Mechanical (MGSE) and Electrical (EGSE) Ground Support Equipment required for the functional and environmental test campaigns, based on the specifications provided by the robotics/mechanism engineers.
  • Develop the associated data acquisition, control and data-processing software (e.g. Beckhoff/TwinCAT, Python).
  • Manufacture, assemble, wire and integrate the GSE/EGSE, and bring them into operation on the test benches.
  • Set up the instrumentation and configure the data acquisition chain (sensors, signal conditioning, acquisition hardware).
  • Verify, debug and validate the GSE/EGSE, including their interfaces to the unit under test and to the bench instrumentation.
  • Write and maintain the full set of GSE/EGSE documentation: requirements, schematics, wiring and harness drawings, interface definitions, and operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Support the test campaigns by operating, maintaining and troubleshooting the GSE/EGSE on site.
  • Collaborate closely with the robotics, mechanism and the Test & Validation team to ensure the GSE/EGSE meet the functional and safety requirements.
  • Travel as required to support test campaigns or visit other Group entities.
  • Education and/or Work Experience Requirements.
  • Engineering degree (MSc level, 5-year programme) in microengineering (microtechnique), electrical engineering (electrotechnique) or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the design and integration of electronics and/or mechatronic test equipment.
  •  Proven skills in electronic design, harnessing/wiring and control or acquisition software development.
  • Familiarity with Beckhoff/TwinCAT and at least one other data-acquisition standard.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and hands-on skills, with a rigorous and safety-conscious approach.
  • Strong team player, able to work autonomously and to manage multiple tasks and projects in parallel.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for test campaigns and inter-entity visits.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Good understanding of the space environment and its constraints on hardware, and knowledge of the applicable standards (e.g. ECSS).
  •  Experience integrating GSE/EGSE for functional or environmental test benches.
  •  Proficiency with relevant software tools: SolidWorks (CAD / mechanical design), an electronics/PCB design tool, and Python (data processing and test automation).
  •  Interest in and ability to leverage AI tools to support engineering productivity, test data analysis and reporting.
  • Good command of French, in addition to English.
