OVERVIEW
CR’s consumer product and service testing center, in Yonkers, New York, is the largest nonprofit educational and consumer product testing center in the world. It is here where, in any one of our 63 labs, we test, rate, and review 10,000+ products and services.
As a Mechanic on the team, you will report to the Director of Facilities to focus on routine maintenance, responding to occasional off-hour emergency calls and ensuring safety regulations are met and all equipment is in good working order.
This is an on-site position located in Yonkers, New York. This position is not eligible for sponsorship or relocation assistance.
How You'll Make An Impact
Our dedicated facility team is instrumental in maintaining and repairing our organization’s headquarters so our testing and research experts can provide consumers with the information they need to make informed decisions. In this position, you will be responsible for:
- Performing maintenance tasks
- Repairing equipment, machinery, and building
- Responding to "on demand" and timely staff requests, event set-ups / emergency calls Complying with safety regulations, and assisting with facility inspections.
- Handling inventory management
- Overseeing the emergency evacuations of staff during fire or safety events
- Repairing and installation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment
- Upkeep of grounds & equipment
ABOUT YOU
You’ll Be Highly Rated If:
- You have the degree. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- You have the experience. A minimum of 5-years experience in maintenance or a similar role.
- You are a subject matter expert. You have knowledge of buildings, machinery, and equipment.
- You are a jack-of-all-trades. You have basic carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical skills.
You are self-motivated and a problem solver. You value teamwork and collaboration. You have the ability and commitment to building and maintaining relationships in order to support and enhance personal, team and organizational work.
Physical requirements include those associated with trade work including working in an office environment, utilization of safe work practices, use of material handling equipment, ladders, lifts and tools & equipment typical for working on systems, ability to lift or move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions typical to the region and the ability to operate large equipment including that used for grounds upkeep and snow removal.

FAIR PAY AND A JUST WORKPLACE
At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation.The target salary range for this position is $69,074.30 - $71,645.04 It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. We have three locations: Yonkers, NY, Washington, DC and Colchester, CT. We are registered to do business in and can only hire from the following states and federal district: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Washington, DC.
