Overview

Embark on an exciting journey with Coreso, a dynamic and fast-paced company at the forefront of the European energy landscape. As a Regional Coordination Centre (RCC),

As a Regional Coordination Centre (RCC), Coreso plays a crucial role in coordinating high-voltage electricity flows for European Transmission System Operators (TSOs), contributing to the security of electricity supply across Europe

Coreso supports European TSOs by performing analyses and coordinating solutions in several regions across Europe. Our engineers combine their expertise 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, anticipating power system operations from the year-ahead timeframe until intraday, just a few hours before real time.

To support our mission, we are looking for a Market Simulations Intern to join our Services team and contribute to the quantitative assessment of how changes in cross-border transmission capacity can affect European electricity markets.

Cross-border capacities determine how much electricity can be traded between different market areas. These capacities are therefore an important driver of wholesale electricity prices. Events such as planned maintenance, the unavailability of network elements or operational issues can reduce the available capacity and influence market outcomes.

During your internship, you will use market simulation results to analyse and illustrate the potential impact of such events on the European electricity market.

As an intern and a member of our Services team, you will work with experienced engineers and electricity market specialists. You will progressively develop your understanding of power system operations, cross-border capacity calculation and European electricity markets.

With the support of your tutor and colleagues, your main objectives will be to:

•  Become familiar with the cross-border capacity calculation and outage planning coordination processes operated by Coreso.

•  Develop your understanding of the European Day-Ahead and Intraday electricity markets.

•  Learn how to use the Simulation Facility, a platform designed to reproduce the behaviour of Euphemia, the algorithm used for market coupling across a large part of Europe.

•  Analyse simulation outputs and develop relevant indicators and visualisations to explain market coupling results.

•  Assess the potential market impact of planned maintenance and network outages that lead to reduced cross-border capacities.

•  Explore ways to support network maintenance planning through clearer and more dynamic market-impact analyses.

•  Present your findings and conclusions to relevant internal stakeholders.

•  Document the methodology and lessons learned, helping Coreso retain and reuse the knowledge developed during the internship.

You will work in a collaborative environment where experienced colleagues will support your learning. The internship will give you the opportunity to connect technical power system concepts with their concrete impact on European electricity markets.

We are looking for an engineering student who is curious, analytical and eager to develop expertise at the intersection of power systems, electricity markets and data analysis.

•  You are currently in the fourth or fifth year of an engineering degree or an equivalent study programme.

•  You have a strong interest in electricity transmission systems and European energy markets.

•  Knowledge of transmission networks, power system operations or electricity markets is considered an advantage.

•  You are comfortable working with complex datasets and translating analytical results into clear conclusions.

•  You have programming skills in Python and an interest in data visualisation and meaningful indicators.

•  You can communicate complex technical topics clearly, both verbally and in writing.

•  You can work independently while actively collaborating with colleagues.

•  You can communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken, and are motivated to learn in an international environment.
