As a float position, the individual hired for this position will work in the school cafeterias throughout the region as assigned. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

This class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks involved in preparing and cooking food.\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

\r\n\r\n Prepares and cooks a wide variety of foods including special diets;�\r\n Operates various types of cooking equipment such as stoves, ovens, steam cookers, mixing machines, choppers, etc.;�\r\n Cleans kitchen areas and equipment;�\r\n Rotates stock on a regular basis;�\r\n Assists with the ordering of food and supplies;�\r\n Inspects food received;�\r\n May serve food or assist in serving;�\r\n May prepare production records;�\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

\r\n\r\n\r\n Knowledge of\r\n \r\n and ability to apply cooking principles and techniques on a quantity basis;�\r\n liquid and dry weights and measures;�\r\n health and safety requirements in food service;�\r\n \r\n \r\n Skills\r\n \r\n interpersonal skills;�\r\n oral and written communication skills;�\r\n \r\n \r\n Ability to\r\n \r\n utilize computer software;�\r\n prepare menus and keep records;�\r\n perform mathematical calculations.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of experience in the preparation of food on a quantity basis.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

Successful completion of a cook training course under the auspices of state or federal apprentice training bureaus may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.\r\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n Experience with large volume food production in a school cafeteria or similar setting.\r\n Experience independently performing tasks to include ordering, inventory, and completion of daily production records.\r\n Experience in using institutional food service equipment.\r\n Experience in a supervisory role with management of staff members and kitchen workflow.\r\n Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.\r\n Possession of or ability to acquire food safety certification within 60 days.\r\n\r\n

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n\r\n Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.\r\n Incumbents must be free from communicable diseases.\r\n A physical examination may be required.\r\n\r\n\r\n

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment and utensils used in the kitchen and from individuals.\r\n
