Douglas Fast Net (DFN) delivers high-speed fiber internet to homes and businesses across Lane, Douglas, and Coos counties. We’re looking for two experienced Telecom Field Engineers to support the planning, evaluation, and deployment of fiber optic infrastructure projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring fiber designs are practical, constructible, and ready for deployment by conducting field evaluations, coordinating engineering efforts, and providing technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle.

What You’ll Do


  • Review complex fiber designs for real-world application. Asses path viability and makes recommendations based on existing infrastructure in the field. 
  • Determine constructability of advanced projects, make thorough recommendations on paths and methods based on joint-use and land-use permitting required, using area and extensive industry knowledge.
  • Identify applicable permits required for work.
  • Gather field information and measurements necessary for engineering. Accurately document and coordinate findings and changes for revisions with design engineer. 
  • Make initial contact with landowners and attempt to obtain easements, when applicable. 
  • Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical customers; set accurate expectations for resolution timelines.
  • Identify and diagnose root-cause deployment issues across large-scale areas.
  • Act as an escalation path with decision making authority and responsibility. Oversight on priority projects.
  • Mentor, coach and train other team members.
  • Identify major make-ready steps in the field. Takes detailed notes and photos for submission to the Make-Ready Engineer.
  • Complete jobs assigned in a timely manner meeting acceptable production standards. 
  • Develop process improvements and refine standard protocols for efficiency.
  • Safely operate a company vehicle following company standards.
  • Perform work to state, local, NESC, NEC and company safety standards.


What We’re Looking For


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate degree or certificate in surveying is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in field engineering, surveying, telecommunications, utilities, or a related field.
  • Experience with Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) architecture within an Outside Plant (OSP) environment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Valid Oregon notary commission or ability to obtain within 1 month of employment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess field conditions and make sound recommendations.
  • Ability to learn industry-specific software and technology platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with reasonable accommodations if needed.
