Overview:
The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of mechanical equipment, engines, and machinery to ensure reliable and efficient operation. This role requires strong technical skills, hands-on experience with mechanical systems, and the ability to diagnose faults accurately. The Mechanic plays a critical part in minimizing downtime and ensuring safe, continuous operations across the site or facility.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment, engines, pumps, compressors, generators, and related machinery.

  • Conduct routine preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.

  • Diagnose mechanical faults using testing tools, equipment manuals, and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Perform mechanical overhauls, component replacements, and system upgrades as required.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, mechanical schematics, and maintenance manuals.

  • Ensure all mechanical work is carried out according to manufacturer specifications and company procedures.

  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used, inspections, and repairs.

  • Assist in planning and executing shutdowns, major repairs, and large equipment services.

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

  • Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and operations teams to resolve equipment issues.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, perform risk assessments, and identify potential hazards in the work environment.

  • Provide recommendations for improving mechanical system efficiency and reliability.

Requirements

  • Mechanical Trade Certificate (essential).

  • Additional certifications in hydraulics, diesel mechanics, or equipment maintenance (advantageous).

  • Valid medical fitness certificate (if required by the work environment).

  • Safety training certificates (e.g., Basic Safety, working at heights) are an advantage.

  • 3-5 years experience in mechanical maintenance, repairs, or equipment servicing.

  • Experience with engines, rotating equipment, and industrial machinery (mining, marine, construction, or plant environments preferred).

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical issues.

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field (preferred).

  • Further mechanical or equipment-specific training is beneficial.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, engine components, and industrial machinery.

  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and service manuals.

  • Hands-on experience using diagnostic tools and mechanical repair equipment.

  • Solid problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to maintenance standards.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work under pressure or in challenging conditions.
