The Courier performs a wide variety of administrative functions relating to the collection, pickup, and delivery of secure and sensitive mail, papers, and documents. Picks up and delivers supplies requiring light to heavy physical effort. Operates various motor vehicles in accomplishing delivery and pick up tasks.
- Transports highly sensitive materials to various Government and Federal agencies and offices, members of the Board of Directors, and agencies of suburban jurisdictions. Obtains signatures of recipients when requested.
- Picks up and delivers various supplies to destinations. Exercises judgment in maneuvering vehicles throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area paying close attention to items being transported and specific driving regulations and requirements.
- Transports passengers on official business to various locations throughout the metropolitan area.
- Maintains a chronological listing of all transporting activities, designated stops, mileage, gas consumption, and number of passengers; prepares records of unusual incidents.
- Performs daily preventive maintenance checks of assigned vehicle and makes arrangement for periodic servicing; informs unit chief of minor repairs needed to maintain the vehicle.
- Assists in assigning vehicles in the Authority’s motor pool.
- Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Coordinates with multiple departments and executive administrators and personnel.
- Supports emergency response as needed to deliver materials or personnel to campuses and emergency sites.
- Supports and coordinates mail room and copy center deliveries.
- Supports copier toner maintenance as needed. Replaces toners and delivers bulk paper throughout DC Water campuses.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the Manager, Facilities Maintenance Services.

Key Working Relationships: Interacts directly with executive staff of the Authority, co-workers, Board members, and members of other agencies of suburban jurisdictions.

Two (2) years of experience directly related to processing documents/materials for distribution and material handling and transport. |
| Minimum Education Requirements: |
| High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. |
| Required Skills: |
Skill and knowledge to operate vehicles over a variety of roads under changing weather conditions. |
| Ability to skillfully drive 15-passenger van or smaller. |
| Requires confidentiality and discretion in execution of tasks. |
| Required Licenses & Certifications: |
| Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s Permit and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement. |
| Physical Requirements: |
| Subject to noise. |
| Subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases or poor ventilation, or to exposure to oils or other cutting fluids. |
