The Company’s proprietary genome engineering platform enables extensive, multiplex gene edits to remove key biological barriers, add protective human transgenes, and inactivate endogenous retroviruses. EGEN-2784, a genetically engineered porcine kidney, is the Company’s lead program and is currently being evaluated in a multi-patient Expanded Access study at MGH. eGenesis is headquartered in Cambridge, MA. 

POSITION SUMMARY
eGenesis is seeking a hands-on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support workplace health and safety programs at our Northwest, Indiana location. This position works closely with the Director of EHS to implement safety programs, conduct inspections, investigate incidents, deliver training, and promote a proactive safety culture. The role supports a unique environment that includes GMP manufacturing operations, research laboratories, animal care operations, veterinary and surgical support areas, maintenance activities, and agricultural facilities. The ideal candidate enjoys being in the field, partnering with employees, and helping identify practical solutions that reduce risk and protect employees. This position offers the opportunity to build a broad EHS skill set while supporting a growing biotechnology company with diverse operations.
  • EHS Program Support
  • Partner with the Director of EHS to implement and continuously improve EHS programs
  • Promote a positive safety culture through employee engagement and visible field presence
  • Serve as a safety resource for employees and supervisors
  • Support company safety committees and employee engagement initiatives
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Support and maintain safety programs for laboratory, GMP manufacturing, and agricultural operations, including areas where biological materials are handled
  • Conduct workplace inspections, compliance audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and reduce workplace risk
  • Conduct incident investigations, identify root causes, and assist departments in implementing corrective actions
  • Animal Care Operations
  • Support employee health and safety programs for animal care, veterinary, and agricultural operations
  • Conduct workplace inspections and job hazard assessments involving animal handling, disinfectants, compressed gases, chemicals, powered equipment, and ergonomic tasks
  • Assist with PPE selection, respiratory protection, and employee safety training
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Animal Resources, and Facilities to identify and reduce workplace risks.
  • Training and SOP Development
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, covering laboratory safety, chemical safety, emergency preparedness, and other EHS-related topics
  • Create and revise safety-related SOPs for integration into Qualio/Veeva (controlled document management system)
  • Program Implementation
  • Maintain EHS records, metrics, and documentation to support regulatory compliance and continuous improvement
  • Support the administration of EHS management systems (e.g., VelocityEHS) for chemical inventory management, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist in emergency preparedness planning and drills across sites
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in EHS
  • Identify opportunities to improve EHS programs processes, and employee engagement
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of occupational health and safety experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, GMP manufacturing, laboratory, healthcare, veterinary, or similar regulated environments
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management principles
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting OSHA compliance in regulated manufacturing, laboratory, or animal care environments
  • Experience supporting GMP manufacturing operations
  • Experience with laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, and hazardous waste management
  • Experience supporting animal care, agricultural, or veterinary operations
  • Familiarity with biosafety principles and regulated research environments
  • ASP or other professional safety certifications are preferred
  • This position is based in Northwest, Indiana and routinely works in office, laboratory, GMP manufacturing, animal care, veterinary, maintenance, and outdoor environments. The position requires frequent walking throughout the campus and occasional lifting, climbing, and use of personal protective equipment. Work may involve exposure to laboratory chemicals, biological materials, livestock, industrial equipment, disinfectants, and varying environmental conditions while following established safety procedures. Occasional travel to other company locations may be required. The ability to respond to emergencies outside of normal business hours may also be necessary.
