Quick Summary

Overview

eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields.

Technical Tools
python

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Model static and time-dependent electrostatic potentials of segmented ion traps

  • Simulate RF (Paul trap) fields and derive effective (pseudopotential) trapping potentials

  • Compute magnetic field distributions, including gradients and field stability

Simulate microwave field distributions for qubit control and coupling
Ion Dynamics & Transport

  • Simulate single- and multi-ion dynamics in time-dependent potentials

  • Analyze ion shuttling protocols, including transport speed, motional excitation, and heating

  • Evaluate stability regions, secular frequencies, and micromotion effects

  • Develop parameterized COMSOL models to explore design trade-offs

  • Extract physical quantities (trap depths, frequencies, field homogeneity)

  • Validate simulation results against analytical models and experimental data

  • Automate simulation workflows where appropriate (e.g. via COMSOL LiveLink)

  • Interface with experimental and theoretical teams to refine trap designs

  • Clearly document simulation assumptions, methods, and results

  • Provide actionable design recommendations based on simulation outcomes

  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience in trapped ions or atomic physics

  • Strong foundation in classical electromagnetism and classical mechanics

  • Experience simulating electrostatic, RF, magnetic, and microwave fields

  • Familiarity with time-dependent simulations and particle tracing/analysis

  • Experience with numerical and FEM-based simulation tools, such as COMSOL Multiphysics (AC/DC and RF Modules preferred)

  • Scripting experience (e.g. Python, MATLAB or COMSOL LiveLink); version control(e.g.Git) is a plus

  • Ability to critically assess scientific literature and technical reports, define validation strategies, and report R&D results in a structured and traceable manner

  • Knowledge of heating mechanisms, motional decoherence, or noise sources

  • Exposure to experimental ion trap setups or hardware constraints

  • Practical understanding of microwave engineering or RF electronics
