Responsibilities
~3 min readPrograms and inspection readiness
- →Maintain site specific accident prevention / safety plans, emergency action plans, fire prevention procedures, hazard communication programs, PPE assessments, equipment rules, and applicable permits. Keep controlled copies available at each site and current digital backups.
- →Maintain an indexed evidence system showing when training, inspections, drills, audits, and corrective actions occurred. Distinguish preventive records from actions completed after an incident or inspection; never backdate records.
- →Lead routine self inspections, document findings with owners and due dates, verify closure in the field, and prepare records and management representatives for ADOSH, fire authority, customer, and insurer inspections. Coordinate citation responses with Corporate Safety and counsel as appropriate.
Field safety and equipment
- →Set and enforce site specific PPE rules from documented hazard assessments, including footwear, hand protection, high visibility garments, and other task appropriate protection. Coach supervisors and document consistent follow through with employees and staffing agencies.
- →Oversee pedestrian and vehicle separation, traffic plans, yard and dock controls, container handling, forklift and straddle carrier operations, reach stackers, yard tractors, trailers, and shuttle activity. Verify authorized operators, training and evaluations, pre use checks, maintenance escalation, and safe towing / recovery procedures.
- →Conduct job hazard analyses for nonroutine work, contractor work and equipment changes; coordinate lockout/tagout, fall protection, electrical safety and other applicable controls with the responsible employer.
Chemicals and emergency preparedness
- →Maintain chemical inventories, accessible safety data sheets, labels and hazard communication training for battery materials, propane, fuels and other workplace chemicals. Coordinate battery damage, thermal event, spill and fire response plans with site leadership and local responders; define when employees evacuate and when trained responders take over.
- →Plan and document emergency exercises and evacuation drills at a frequency established by applicable law, permit, customer requirements and site risk. Record attendance, observations, action items and closure. Inspect emergency routes, eyewash / spill supplies and fire protection interfaces with qualified service providers.
Training, incidents and accountability
- →Deliver orientation and recurring role specific training across shifts in a language and vocabulary workers understand; use qualified interpreters or bilingual trainers where needed. Maintain rosters, dated sign in records, materials, competency checks and retraining triggers.
- →Investigate injuries, near misses, equipment damage and unsafe conditions; preserve evidence, identify contributing causes, assign corrective actions and verify effectiveness. Support required injury and illness recordkeeping and timely regulator notifications with Corporate Safety.
- →Partner with operations leaders and staffing agencies to apply fair, documented corrective coaching and discipline under company policy. Track repeat findings and report unresolved or imminent hazards promptly to site leadership.
Qualifications:
- →Three or more years of hands on EHS or safety compliance experience in industrial, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics or heavy equipment operations, including multi site responsibility.
- →Working knowledge of applicable Arizona occupational safety requirements and federal OSHA general industry standards, emergency planning, HazCom, PPE, powered industrial trucks and injury recordkeeping.
- →Experience leading inspections, investigations, training, corrective action tracking and document control; able to communicate with regulators and customers professionally.
- →Strong English communication skills and ability to train or arrange effective training for Spanish speaking employees. Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.
- →Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites, walk industrial yards, and work around operating equipment while following site safety rules.
The base salary range for this role is between $65,000-$75,000 yearly, and your base salary will depend on your experiences, qualifications, and skills.
