Senior Engineering Manager - Highway CM

Full-Time Hourly Pay Range: $55–$80/hour, depending on office location and experience

GAI is seeking an experienced Highway Project Manager to lead transportation design projects across our New York offices. In this role, you will manage client relationships, project delivery, and technical teams while mentoring the next generation of engineers.

• Own your projects end to end. Run client relations, staffing, scheduling, budgets, and QA/QC on the work you manage.
• Lead a diverse project portfolio. Highway design, traffic signal design, long-range transportation planning, traffic impact studies, and transit planning.
• Manage at multiple levels of complexity. Serve as concurrent PM on basic, intermediate, and complex projects simultaneously.
• Grow the practice. Help develop proposals, attend interviews, and support business development in an active New York market.
• Mentor and be recognized. Train and provide technical guidance to project engineers and staff engineers as a trusted technical advisor.

• →Serve as the day-to-day client contact for individual projects.
• →Manage day-to-day staffing and project scheduling.
• →Act as concurrent project manager across basic, intermediate, and complex projects.
• →Review complete project documents for conformity and lead QA/QC.
• →Represent GAI in communications and conferences covering broad-aspect engineering assignments.
• →Train and provide technical guidance to project engineers and staff engineers.
• →Manage project schedules and budgets and prepare project bills.
• →Lead project and public meetings on complex projects.
• →Provide coordination for multidiscipline projects.
• →Assist in developing intermediate and complex proposals and attend proposal interviews.
• →Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for work carried out by Engineer I–IV staff.
• →Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposal preparation.

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or approved equivalent.
• 10 years of experience in a similar engineering role.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure strongly desired; engineering experience may be substituted for PE licensure.
• Active member of a professional practice organization.
• Willingness to work outside normal business hours as needed to meet client requests and attend meetings.

• NYSDOT, NYSTA, municipal, or county agency experience.
• Traffic signal design or transportation planning depth.
• Business development or proposal leadership.
• Active involvement in ACEC, ASCE, ITE, APWA, or related professional organizations.

This position is based in Creighton Manning’s Albany, Syracuse, Poughkeepsie, or White Plains, New York office. Travel is estimated at approximately 25% and may include client meetings, project-specific meetings, public meetings, industry events, and business development activities. This role often requires efforts outside normal business hours to meet client requests and attend meetings. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
