Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Senior Transportation Planner / Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering team. This role can be based out of any of our GTA offices in Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Whitby.

The Transportation group within GHD Canada works with provincial, regional, and local municipal transportation agencies on large-scale projects across the whole transportation spectrum of roadways, bridges, active travel, traffic engineering, and transportation planning. Transportation planning comprises numerous specialized disciplines, from traffic calming to complete streets, which collectively support larger planning and design projects. These disciplines form the core of larger transportation planning or transportation design projects. Every transportation project we undertake requires some level of traffic engineering and transportation planning expertise, whether a large-scale traffic study or an intersection upgrade.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

• Have the ability to lead and deliver multidisciplinary projects (within Transportation Planning)

• Have demonstrable experience in people/team management

• Contribute to the development of junior staff
• Coordinate work from different disciplines (municipal, structural, technical support staff, etc.)
• Prepare stakeholder consultation material
• Develop client relationships and new business opportunities
• Undertake research and analysis of land use, demographic, and travel data
• Assist with the preparation and analysis of travel forecasts
• Develop and assess alternative road improvements
• Develop preliminary road designs, prepare technical memos, reports, and graphics
• Incorporate transit, pedestrian, transportation demand management strategies, and active transportation into studies
• Provide traffic engineering services for Environmental Assessments, Preliminary and Detail roadway projects
• Review and support intersection operations analysis
• Review and complete microsimulation analysis

What will you bring to the team: 

• A degree in Civil Engineering with 8-12 years of experience in transportation
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.ENG)
• Solid understanding of relevant transportation planning and traffic engineering policies and design standards in Ontario
• Experience with safety audits and collision analysis
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of traffic operational assessment. Experience with transportation software such as Synchro, Sidra, Vissim, Aimsun and/or other traffic software will be an asset.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of transportation planning. Experience with macro modelling software will be an asset
• Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Excellent report and proposal writing skills
• Positive attitude, good communication, and interpersonal skills
• Performs well independently as well as in a team environment
• Valid Driver’s license

The hourly rate range for this position is $87,570K – $133,570K

The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
