Requirements

- Skilled in ALM tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jama, Bamboo, and Crucible.
- Demonstrated experience building teams and managing projects in software development environments on proprietary or classified programs within aerospace or defense industries.
- Knowledge of simulation systems or software engineering principles.
- Experience with software development lifecycle methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and Spiral.
- Strong technical, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface with senior leadership.
- Knowledge of modeling and simulation systems.
- Previous experience mentoring junior engineers and fostering team growth.
- Experience with application development, integration, and deployment across cloud platforms and IaaS/PaaS environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware, OpenShift, OpenStack).
- Strong background with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes) and microservices using RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (L2/L3, spine‑leaf), database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), and common data formats (JSON, XML, YAML, XSD).
- Experience in modeling and simulation systems and working across both Linux and Windows environments using modern IDEs (e.g., Visual Studio, VS Code).
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies (Scrum, SAFe).
- Familiarity with RTX engineering processes and systems.

The Proprietary Platforms Software Engineering Department at Collins Aerospace designs, develops, and delivers secure, high‑performance software that enables mission success for proprietary aerospace and defense systems. We seek a Senior Engineering Manager Infrastructure to guide a talented team in creating high‑fidelity modeling, simulation, and training solutions.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will have dual responsibilities encompassing both technical and team leadership. You will oversee the software engineering infrastructure discipline which will include design, implementation, and continuous improvement of DevSecOps and Cyber engineer support for a major simulation and training program. This will include managing scope, budget control, and execution for the program across the full lifecycle—from bids and proposals to requirements, design, development, integration, testing, verification, validation and delivery. Additionally, you will play a critical role in fostering a positive work culture, supporting staff career development, and driving the success of a talented engineering team.
The role is based on-site in Sterling, VA, with occasional travel required. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance is mandatory, as much of the work is performed within a classified lab environment requiring daily onsite presence.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Build and lead a team of 10-20 software engineers, fostering collaboration, teamwork, and continuous improvements.
- →Oversee the full software lifecycle for special access programs, from bids and proposals to requirements, design, development, integration, testing, verification, and validation.
- →Drive the design and continuous improvement of DevSecOps and Cyber Engineering practices to support program objectives.
- →Provide technical leadership and direction to the software infrastructure engineering team.
- →Ensure resource allocation aligns with program needs and priorities.
- →Actively manage staffing supply ensuring firm and anticipated demand is accurate and appropriate staff levels are allocated.
- →Act as a servant leader by mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge, and enabling team success.
- →Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Executive Managers, Program Managers, and Operations Managers.
- →Drive data-driven decision-making processes and solve complex problems in a dynamic environment including risk identification and mitigation.
- →Develop strong internal and external networks, collaborating across engineering, business development, and program/product management functions.
- →Build and maintain a healthy and thriving team by recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and successfully integrating new talent into the organization.
- →Communicate effectively by preparing and presenting updates to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- →Manage staff career development and advancement by providing access to leadership development programs, mentorship opportunities, and the ability to take on increasing levels of responsibility within RTX, supporting long-term career growth and professional success.
