GRA Design Studio is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our growing engineering department and support the design of custom commercial and franchise projects. This position is focused on producing high-quality electrical construction documents in a fast-paced architectural environment, with hands-on production in Revit and AutoCAD.
The Electrical Engineer will collaborate closely with the engineering team and architectural staff to develop coordinated project documents from early design through permit and construction phases. Projects may include restaurants, quick-service food concepts, fitness studios, retail spaces, offices, and other commercial tenant improvements.

This role offers exposure to both established prototype-driven franchise programs and custom commercial projects, giving the candidate the opportunity to work on recognizable brands while developing practical, code-compliant electrical design experience.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working efficiently across multiple active projects while maintaining strong attention to detail, coordination, and documentation quality.
What You’ll Do:
● Develop electrical designs for a wide range of commercial and franchise projects, including restaurants, quick-service food concepts, fitness studios, retail spaces, offices, and tenant fit-outs.
● Prepare coordinated electrical construction documents in Revit and AutoCAD, including power plans, lighting plans, lighting control layouts, panel schedules, electrical risers, details, and specifications.
● Design and coordinate power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, emergency/egress lighting, equipment connections, and low-voltage system pathways.
● Adapt national franchise prototype standards to real-world site conditions, landlord requirements, utility constraints, and local jurisdictional requirements.
● Perform electrical load calculations, circuiting, panel schedules, voltage drop checks, service coordination, and code-compliance reviews.
● Coordinate directly with architects, mechanical engineers, plumbing designers, fire protection consultants, and project teams throughout design, permitting, and construction.
● Support construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, field coordination, plan revisions, and responses to permit comments.
● Participate in occasional site visits to survey existing conditions, review field constraints, and assist with project coordination.
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
● 3–7 years of experience in electrical design for buildings, preferably within an AEC, architecture, engineering, or consulting environment.
● Strong working proficiency in both Revit and AutoCAD. Daily production experience is required.
● Experience with commercial, retail, restaurant, office, or tenant fit-out projects.
● Solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, electrical design standards, and local Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements.
● Ability to independently produce electrical design work while coordinating with the broader engineering and architectural teams.
● Strong understanding of power distribution, lighting layouts, lighting controls, emergency lighting, panel schedules, circuiting, and equipment connections.
● Ability to manage multiple active projects, deadlines, and design revisions in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with franchise, prototype-based, or repeat-brand commercial projects.
● Exposure to New Jersey, New York, or New York City jurisdictions.
● EIT certification or interest in pursuing PE licensure.
● Familiarity with energy code compliance, lighting control requirements, photometric layouts, or COMcheck documentation.
● Experience supporting construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, field coordination, and permit comments.
