Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Associate Control Center & Maintenance Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Perth, Australia.



Reporting to the Team Leader, you will assist with data analysis, system monitoring, maintenance support, and technical reporting activities. You will work closely with experienced engineers, maintenance teams, and data specialists while gaining exposure to real-world rail signalling and operational environments.


Whether you are a recent graduate, a final-year student, or an early-career professional looking to gain valuable industry experience, this role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your capabilities in data analytics, railway systems, and maintenance support.

 

  • Be available to work on an ad-hoc basis with flexible hours and varied tasks.
  • Identify valuable data sources and assist in automating data collection processes.
  • Undertake pre-processing of structured and unstructured data from operational and maintenance systems.
  • Analyse large volumes of data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support the analysis of railway signalling, onboard, and maintenance system logs.
  • Work closely with Log Analysis teams to support the development of long-term data platform strategies and architecture.
  • Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and analytical tools to support operational decision-making.
  • Present findings using data visualisation techniques and reporting tools.
  • Assist in the development of predictive maintenance and performance-monitoring solutions.
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies, data analytics methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings, workshops, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Foster professional and collaborative relationships with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.


  • Bachelor's degree (or currently completing a degree) in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques and statistical methodologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python, or similar analytical tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Internship, vacation work, or practical experience in Data Analytics, Big Data platforms, Rail Systems, Signalling, Telecommunications, or related fields.
  • 0-2 years of experience in data analysis, system maintenance, technical support, or related activities.
  • Experience with Power BI, Kibana, Grafana, Elasticsearch, SQL, Python, or similar analytics platforms.
  • Understanding of railway signalling systems, onboard systems, telecommunications, or industrial control systems.
  • Experience working with log analysis, monitoring, or operational performance reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based analytics platforms and data visualisation tools would be advantageous.
