QA/QC Field Engineer - Interior Systems

Position Summary: Hoffman Specialty Contracting is seeking a Quality Field Engineer. This individual will be an integral member of the on-site Quality Department, providing essential support throughout the lifecycle of a hyper-scaled data center construction project. Reporting to the Hoffman Specialty Contracting Quality Manager, the role will work closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams to manage day-to-day site activities, verify compliance with contract documents, and uphold safety, quality standards, and design intent. The Quality Field Engineer supports project quality efforts through inspections, documentation, testing coordination, issue resolution, and field verification of work across multiple scopes in a complex mission-critical environment. The position requires experience inspecting, coordinating, or supervising structural, CSA, and MEP activities with the ability to anticipate challenges and proactively resolve coordination issues in the field. This position will be fully at the project site in Childress, TX.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000 DOE + Per Diem & Incentives

Essential Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate all field construction QC activities, including metal stud framing, drywall hanging, and ceiling installations, collaborating closely with project engineers, superintendents, manufacturers, suppliers, and inspectors.
• Support project quality personnel and field teams in executing inspections, documentation, and quality control processes.
• Participate in the implementation and maintenance of project QA/QC programs.
• Support execution of the Quality Project Execution Plan and Test and Inspection Plans (TIPs).
• Monitor and review design documents to identify constructability errors or omissions.
• Ensure strict adherence to project-specific safety protocols and participate in safety audits and incident investigations.
• Coach site staff in proper means and methods for installation of HSC scope and convey Hoffman Specialties Quality standards of practice to site teams.
• Investigate, understand, and convey technical product properties and how they interact with scopes of work.
• Must be able to interpret and implement proper installations in compliance with all local authority permitting, codes, and site specifications.
• Facilitate HSC activity ensuring performance to all contractual agreements.
• Support project quality staffing needs through coordination and communication with project leadership as required.
• Provide clear communication, verbally, written, and electronically.
• Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Manage inspection processes, deficiency tracking, and punch list resolution.
• Support project closeout documentation and turnover requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Experience and Education:

• Minimum 5 years’ construction and/or building design experience in one or more of the following categories preferred: on-site construction management; structural, mechanical, electrical, or architectural design (no license required).
• Experience inspecting, coordinating, or supervising framing, drywall, and ceiling scopes preferred.
• High School diploma or GED required.

• Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations.
• Ability to manage several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress.
• Advanced visual observation and interpretation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with clients, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Must be a dedicated team player, self-starter, flexible and able to work well with a variety of personalities and minimal instruction. Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations is required.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
• Strong working knowledge of project management and scheduling software such as Prolog, Procore, and Building Information Model (BIM360).
• Demonstrated conflict resolution ability.
• Ability to foster a “culture of quality.”

Physical and Mental Requirements:

• Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is a combination of being stationary and moving about the work location.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
• Must be able to climb stairs, to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and inspect confined spaces or underground spaces.
• Hands/Arms: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Frequently operates machinery and will use hands/fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect and position materials.
• Sight: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver's license. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; reading printed and digital documents.
• Hearing: Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment more than 75% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection, as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting and on the job site.
• Speech: Ability to communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, protocols, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope in English.
• Lift/Carry: Must have the ability to lift or manipulate fifty pounds to a height of three feet and carry or push it 50-100 feet.
• Bending/Twisting: Frequent. 
• Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Must be able to regularly position self in a kneeling, crouching or crawling position for the purpose of examining project work.
• Must be able to physically access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
• Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
• Must use independent judgment, and organizational and critical thinking skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
