Data Center Project Manager

Job Summary: The Data Center Project Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery of data center builds, expansions, deployments, upgrades, fit-outs, and infrastructure projects in mission-critical environments. This role oversees project planning, scheduling, execution, commissioning coordination, customer communication, subcontractor management, and project closeout activities while ensuring adherence to customer requirements, installation standards, quality expectations, and operational controls. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for customers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
•    Lead planning, scheduling, execution, commissioning coordination, and closeout activities for data center deployment projects 
•    Manage subcontractor activities, vendor coordination, and field resources to support successful project execution
•    Coordinate rack and stack deployments, electrical infrastructure, cooling systems, low voltage systems, fiber backbone installations, and tenant improvement activities 
•    Oversee project execution in active and live data center environments while ensuring adherence to operational controls and change management procedures 
•    Coordinate project schedules, shutdown activities, turnover milestones, and commissioning readiness requirements 
•    Serve as the primary point of contact for regional, colocation, enterprise, and hyperscale customers, general contractors, and MEP contractors 
•    Monitor project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements throughout the project lifecycle 
•    Prepare executive reporting, project status updates, forecasts, and customer communications 
•    Manage project invoicing, scope changes, change orders, and long lead procurement tracking 
•    Coordinate trades and ensure installations meet engineered designs, customer specifications, and quality standards 
•    Enforce quality assurance checklists, inspection hold points, and turnover readiness requirements 
•    Support ITPs (Integration Test Plans), commissioning activities, punch list tracking, and project closeout documentation 
•    Identify operational risks and support contingency planning for live environment work activities 
•    Support multi-site deployments, multi-team builds, and large-scale rack deployment projects 
•    Utilize project management and tracking tools including Microsoft Project, Procore, Smartsheet, Excel, JIRA, ServiceNow, and related systems
•    Follow all Company safety policies, customer site requirements, and established safe work practices at all times 
•    Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, and administrative records
•    Travel regularly to job sites, which may include overnight stays 
•    Other duties as assigned

Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Experience: 
•    Five or more years of project management experience in data center, mission-critical, telecommunications, electrical, construction, or related environments 
•    Experience managing data center deployment, fit-out, expansion, or infrastructure projects 
•    Experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and multiple trades 
•    Experience working in live data center or mission-critical environments 
•    Experience supporting commissioning, turnover, and customer acceptance activities 
•    Experience managing multi-site or large-scale deployment projects 

 

Technical Skills:
•    Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency 
•    Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, deployment practices, and mission-critical environments 
•    Knowledge of electrical systems, cooling systems, low voltage systems, structured cabling, fiber backbone infrastructure, and rack/stack deployments 
•    Understanding of commissioning processes, turnover readiness, and operational controls in live environments 
•    Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, floor plans, one-line diagrams, and project documentation 
•    Experience using Microsoft Project, Procore, Smartsheet, Excel, JIRA, ServiceNow, Autodesk, and related project management tools 
•    Understanding of QA processes, hold points, punch list management, and installation standards 
•    Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) concepts

Physical Requirements: 
•    Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
•    Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
•    Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly 
•    Ability to stand, bend, climb, and work overhead for extended periods
•    Ability to safely use ladders, lifts, and basic hand tools  
•    Ability to work in active construction and live data center environments
•    Ability to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
•    Ability to work long and unpredictable hours and flexible schedules, including nights and weekends as required 
•    Ability to travel regionally and nationally up to 75% of the time
