As a Fabric Platform Engineer, you will own the technical foundations of a production-grade Microsoft Fabric data and reporting platform supporting global operations across more than 60 countries. You will play a key role in ensuring platform reliability, security, scalability, and performance across a complex, cloud-based data environment. Working with Microsoft Fabric, Azure DevOps, AWS, and Terraform, you will build resilient infrastructure, automate deployments, and establish robust governance and monitoring practices. You will take end-to-end ownership of platform operations, including hybrid connectivity, identity and access management, and disaster recovery. Collaborating with distributed teams, you will help deliver secure, reliable data services that support critical operational and commercial reporting. This is an opportunity to shape a growing data platform, establish engineering standards, and drive continuous improvement in a technically challenging international environment.
Platform Infrastructure and Reliability: Manage the Microsoft Fabric environment, including workspace architecture, capacity allocation, and Dev, UAT, and Production environment separation. Build and maintain resilient infrastructure using Terraform, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
Hybrid Connectivity and Networking: Own the connectivity between source systems and Microsoft Fabric, including AWS-hosted On-Premises Data Gateway clusters, site-to-site VPNs, VPC peering, private subnets, and traffic routing. Ensure reliable, secure, and highly available data connectivity in production.
CI/CD and Release Management: Design, implement, and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for deploying Fabric artefacts across environments. Establish and enforce branching strategies, pull request governance, version control practices, and auditable release processes.
Security and Identity Management: Govern the platform's access model using Microsoft Entra ID, workspace role-based access control (RBAC), security groups, and service principals. Manage credentials, secrets rotation through Azure Key Vault, and periodic access reviews to maintain strong security standards.
Power BI Administration and Embedding: Maintain Power BI workspace administration, deployment workflows, and App Owns Data embedding for internal applications. Configure authentication, workspace permissions, and Row-Level Security (RLS) to support internal users and external customer identities securely.
Monitoring and Incident Management: Implement platform-wide monitoring for Fabric capacity, data pipeline execution, gateway connectivity, and AWS infrastructure using tools such as Amazon CloudWatch. Define alerting thresholds, escalation procedures, and incident response processes, taking ownership of first-line infrastructure troubleshooting.
Data Source and Customer Onboarding: Integrate new data sources through established ingestion and connectivity frameworks. Manage customer reporting access by configuring Entra ID groups, workspace permissions, and the required RLS entries in the Gold Warehouse.
Capacity and Cost Optimisation: Review Fabric capacity utilisation and compute consumption across production and non-production environments each month. Analyse workload costs, identify optimisation opportunities, and provide capacity planning and scaling recommendations.
Data Governance and Engineering Standards: Support data asset registration, metadata tagging, lineage documentation, and ownership management in Microsoft Purview. Contribute to platform naming conventions, technical standards, reusable templates, and engineering best practices.
Automation and Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to automate operational processes using Power Automate, Microsoft Power Platform, Python, PowerShell, and relevant APIs. Evaluate new Microsoft Fabric, Azure DevOps, and AWS capabilities and recommend improvements to platform operations.
Documentation and Operational Readiness: Maintain clear architecture documentation, deployment runbooks, incident response procedures, onboarding guides, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent, auditable, and repeatable platform management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with data engineering, architecture, security, and other distributed teams to maintain platform standards, manage priorities, and ensure the platform supports evolving business requirements.
