Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)
Quick Summary
Strong experience in Site Reliability Engineering, including service-level objectives (SLOs), service-level indicators (SLIs), error budgets, production readiness, reliability standards,
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in strengthening application reliability, improving release safety, and building a scalable Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Center of Excellence.
You will partner with application teams and SRE leaders to establish consistent reliability standards, embed service-level objectives into delivery pipelines, and improve production readiness.
Working with Dynatrace and ServiceNow, you will help teams move from reactive monitoring toward proactive, user-focused reliability engineering.
Your work will span the software delivery lifecycle, from defining service-level indicators and error budgets to implementing release controls and improving incident response.
You will lead initiatives that enable engineering teams to deploy changes confidently, identify reliability risks early, and recover quickly when incidents occur.
This contract opportunity offers the chance to influence engineering practices across multiple application teams while delivering measurable improvements in reliability and delivery performance.
If you are a hands-on SRE leader who combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong stakeholder collaboration, this role offers an opportunity to create lasting operational impact.
-
Establish and scale SRE practices: Collaborate with SRE leaders to build and evolve a Center of Excellence, defining shared standards, reusable templates, and a consistent operating model across application teams.
-
Embed reliability into application teams: Work with two or three application teams per implementation wave, enabling them to adopt standardized reliability practices and operate independently using documented templates and established processes.
-
Define and manage SLOs and SLIs: Start with critical user journeys and identify meaningful service-level indicators, reliability targets, measurement windows, and error budgets to assess application performance from the user's perspective.
-
Implement reliability objectives in Dynatrace: Configure service-level objectives, synthetic monitoring, dashboards, and supporting tags as code, maintaining consistency between non-production and production environments. Provide clear visibility into SLO compliance, error-budget consumption, burn rates, and overall service health.
-
Improve alerting and incident response: Configure actionable alerts based on error-budget consumption rather than isolated performance fluctuations. Integrate alerts with existing Dynatrace-to-ServiceNow workflows and include relevant runbook links to support efficient incident resolution.
-
Integrate production readiness into CI/CD: Establish automated release gates that verify synthetic test results, reliability baselines, and rollback readiness before changes reach production. Promote blue-green deployments and other safe release strategies that minimize service disruption.
-
Measure delivery and reliability outcomes: Track and report key DORA metrics, including deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and time to restore service. Connect these metrics to SLO performance and error-budget consumption rather than focusing on tooling activity alone.
-
Participate in on-call operations: Support the applications under your responsibility during on-call rotations, using Dynatrace and ServiceNow to investigate incidents, identify affected user journeys and dependencies, and guide recovery efforts.
-
Drive continuous improvement: Lead blameless post-incident reviews and translate findings into practical runbooks, engineering backlog items, and actionable improvements that reduce the likelihood or impact of future incidents.
-
Communicate progress and risks: Provide clear, concise updates to application owners and leadership, covering commitments, completed deliverables, blockers, risks, and upcoming milestones in accessible business language.
-
Coach and empower engineering teams: Establish reliability champions within application teams, provide guidance on SRE best practices, and lead error-budget reviews when reliability targets are missed.
-
Deliver measurable outcomes: Establish a production-ready golden path for a critical application within the first 90 days, then complete successive implementation waves with clear ownership, milestones, and measurable improvements. A wave is complete when teams can independently assess user-journey reliability and safely roll back unsuccessful releases.
