Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies**
Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this classification exist is to perform semi-skilled operation of equipment used in the construction and maintenance of county roads, drainage ditches and bridges. Major work responsibilities may include: operating various types of equipment including highway tractors, rollers, and backhoes; performing various maintenance and construction related duties utilizing equipment; performing basic preventative maintenance on equipment; training on additional equipment as time permits; and performing related manual work.� The County Road Equipment Operator I is distinguished from the County Road Equipment Operator II in that the CREO I typically performs less skilled equipment operations than the CREO II and operates equipment that does not require a CDL.� Work is ordinarily performed under the supervision of and frequently inspected by the Road Maintenance Supervisor.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) months of experience in the operation of off-road or industrial use equipment.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:��Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the\r\nrequisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n�\r\n
Special Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.� A CDL may be required to perform the duties of the relief Operator on vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver’s License. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nWORKING CONDITIONS:� Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements to include direct sun exposure, extreme heat and/or cold, rain, and lightning as well as exposure to ants, bees, insects, and poisonous plants such as poison ivy and poison oak.� Equipment is operated on paved surfaces as well as across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces at the various work sites.� Work requires some extended work hours, overtime, night, weekend, and holiday hours as well as afterhours on-call duty.� \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPHYSICAL ABILITIES: ��Physical ability to bend, stoop, walk, and stand for periods of time as needed to perform manual labor duties. \r\n\r\n
