POSITION DUTIES

The MIA's Financial\r\nRegulation Division is recruiting to fill two (2) positions at the Senior\r\nExaminer or Examiner-in-Charge I levels.� An Examiner-in-Charge I functions as the day-to-day lead worker on financial examinations\r\nof medium-sized Maryland-domiciled insurance companies. The Examiner-in-Charge\r\nI plans the examination, assigns and reviews work of staff examiners,\r\ncoordinates the work of specialists, identifies solvency and other issues, and drafts\r\nexamination reports.\r\n�\r\nA Senior Examiner functions\r\nas an assistant on financial examinations of Maryland-domiciled insurance\r\ncompanies. While on an examination, this position reports to and receives\r\ndirection from the Examiner-In-Charge designated to oversee that exam. The Senior\r\nExaminer examines financial statement accounts with the most complex\r\naccounting, internal control, solvency and compliance issues. This position\r\nalso serves as a lead worker to other staff examiners assisting the Senior\r\nExaminer on assigned work. In these instances, the Senior Examiner is\r\nresponsible for providing direction to and reviewing the work performed by lower\r\nlevel Insurance Examiner staff to ensure that directions are properly carried\r\nout..\r\n�\r\nFor both the Senior\r\nExaminer and Examiner-in-Charge I levels, portions of the work may be �performed at the insurance companies, or other\r\nentities regulated by the State, and portions are performed via telework. The\r\npositions may be required to travel, in State and out-of-state, and may involve\r\nlong commutes or overnight stays.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Senior Examiner:\r\n�\r\nEducation: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited\r\nfour-year college or university.\r\n�\r\nExperience: Three years of experience with a state\r\ninsurance department, public accounting firm, or similar audit entity, or\r\nanother entity in a financial or audit-related area. \r\n�\r\nLicenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Active Accredited\r\nFinancial Examiner (AFE) designation, Certified Financial Examiner (CFE)\r\ndesignation, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation, or Certified Public\r\nAccountant (CPA) license. \r\n�\r\nSpecial Requirements: An employee in this\r\nclassification� possessing a Certified\r\nInternal Auditor (CIA) designation, or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)\r\nlicense must obtain the Society of Financial Examiners’ Accredited Financial\r\nExaminer (AFE)� designation within three\r\nyears of employment.\r\n\r\n\r\n�\r\n\r\nExaminer-In-Charge�I:�\r\n�\r\nEducation: Bachelor’s degree\r\nfrom an accredited college or university.\r\n�\r\nExperience: Three years of experience with a state insurance department, a public\r\naccounting firm or similar audit entity, or an insurance company in a financial\r\nor audit-related area. One year of this experience must have been in an\r\nin-charge or supervisory capacity.\r\n�\r\nLicenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Active Certified\r\nFinancial Examiner (CFE) designation, Active Certified Financial Examiner\r\n(AFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation, or Certified\r\nPublic Accountant (CPA) license.\r\n�\r\nSpecial Requirements: An employee in this classification must obtain the Society of\r\nFinancial Examiners’ Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) designation within five\r\nyears of employment.� This must be\r\naccomplished by obtaining the Accredited Financial Examiner (AFE)� designation within three years of employment\r\nand obtaining the CFE within the subsequent two years. For a new employee or\r\nexisting employee who already possesses an AFE designation, they must obtain a\r\nCFE designation within two years of acquiring the position.�\r\n

SELECTION PROCESS

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy\r\nof the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential\r\nevaluation service will be required prior to hire.�Verification of\r\nrequired designation or license must be provided at the time of application\r\nsubmission.
