**Previous applicants are still being considered**\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is\r\nan independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $49 billion insurance\r\nindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and\r\ninsurance professionals’ compliance with State law.� Staff members are\r\nsubject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and\r\nother public and private entities.�\r\n\r\nThe MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the\r\nlicensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents)\r\noperating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to\r\nmonitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract\r\nforms.� The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer\r\ncomplaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and/or property\r\ninsurance.� Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations\r\nand other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law.� The MIA also\r\nhas a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in\r\nhundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.\r\n�\r\n* This is a Management\r\nService position that serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

The MIA is recruiting to\r\nfill a Senior Financial Analyst I position with the Financial Regulation\r\nDivision.� This position represents the lead level of work\r\nmonitoring domestic\r\nand foreign insurance companies that transact business in Maryland for solvency\r\nand for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and other regulatory\r\nrequirements to protect Maryland citizens.\r\nThe position performs in-depth analyses of insurers’ annual and\r\nquarterly statements, and other filings, to identify and assess the insurer’s exposure to the branded\r\nrisk classifications; and investigates and assesses significant unusual\r\nitems, fluctuations or other issues found and significant prospective risks\r\nwith the potential to affect the solvency of the insurer. The Senior Financial\r\nAnalyst I researches related topics/issues, documents significant\r\nfindings, writes an overall summary, prepares draft correspondence, and\r\nconcludes on the financial condition and statutory compliance of the insurers. In addition, the Senior Financial\r\nAnalyst I performs in-depth reviews of the work products of assigned Financial\r\nAnalysts; prepares review notes related to those reviews; and ensures that\r\nareas of concern are properly addressed.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:��Bachelors’ degree from an\r\naccredited college or university.\r\n\r\n�\r\nExperience: Three years of experience with a\r\nstate insurance department, a public accounting firm or similar audit entity,\r\nor another entity in a financial or audit-related area is required.\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\nLicenses,\r\nRegistrations and Certifications: Active Certified Public Accountant\r\n(CPA), Accredited Financial Examiner (AFE), or Certified Financial Examiner\r\n(CFE) designation required.\r\n
