Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and the Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to\r\noperate garbage packers, truck-mounted trash loaders, and other refuse\r\ncollection vehicles in order to service the Sanitation Department’s\r\ncustomers.� Sanitation Truck Drivers\r\nserve as the leader of a crew consisting of a driver and two service\r\nmaintenance workers; drivers are responsible for setting the pace of work and\r\nensuring the safety of the crew and the public.\r\nMajor work responsibilities may include: operating sanitation\r\nvehicles; serving as the lead worker for work crew; performing preventative\r\nmaintenance checks; communicating with customers and the public; and assisting\r\nin the performance of manual labor.� Although routes are assigned by supervisors,\r\nSanitation Truck Drivers are responsible for ensuring the assigned route is\r\ncompleted in a timely manner.� Work is performed\r\nwith limited immediate supervision and requires drivers to exercise independent\r\njudgement while on routes. Supervision is received from the Refuse Collection\r\nSupervisor.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months of experience\r\noperating equipment such as garbage packers, sanitation vehicles, buses, tractor trailers, and other vehicles\r\nrequiring a Class B CDL or higher.� Must\r\npossess and maintain a valid Alabama\r\nCommercial Driver’s License Class B or higher.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:� Qualifying education, training and experience\r\nthat provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job\r\nwill be considered.\r\n\r\n

Special Requirements

Must work overtime, nights, and weekends for emergencies and special events. Must possess and maintain an insurable driving record.\r\n\r\n\r\nPHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to stand, stoop, bend, or kneel as needed to operate and inspect equipment, perform preventive\r\nmaintenance checks, and perform manual labor duties. Physical ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 2 hours, in order to operate equipment.��Physical ability to operate equipment from an enclosed cab while being exposed to inclement\r\nweather, dust, and dirt.\r\n\r\n

Kind of Examination
