About the Role
~1 min readAn established manufacturer of industrial vacuum furnaces and thermal processing equipment in Burlington, Ontario, supplying aerospace, medical, industrial and nuclear customers worldwide, is hiring a Senior Project Engineer. This is a succession minded hire reporting to the VP of Operations and General Manager, owning projects rather than people.
Responsibilities
~1 min readYou will lead mechanical design for custom furnace and thermal equipment projects from first concept through build, testing and shipment. You act as the senior technical resource on the floor, approve drawings, guide how hot zones are built, and mentor the engineers and designers around you.
- →Lead mechanical design for assigned projects, including layouts, calculations, 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed drawings
- →Review, improve and approve engineering drawings for accuracy, manufacturability and compliance
- →Develop and maintain design standards and drive standardization across projects
- →Prepare and review technical specifications and support quotations and proposals
- →Coordinate with project management across the full project lifecycle and manage design schedules and lead times
- →Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, repair, testing and commissioning
- →Coordinate with suppliers, vendors and subcontractors on technical requirements and materials
- →Lead and support furnace, thermal system and hot zone design, build direction and pre shipment review
- →Mentor engineers, designers, technicians and new employees as the senior mechanical design resource
Requirements
~1 min read- Post secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field
- 7 to 10 years in mechanical design, manufacturing or project engineering on custom industrial equipment, machinery or pressure vessels
- Strong 3D CAD experience with assemblies, layouts and detailed drawings
- Demonstrated authority reviewing and approving technical drawings
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication, machining, welding, materials and manufacturing processes
- Proven ability to lead technical projects from concept through design, build, test and shipment
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Furnace design, thermal systems, hot zones, vacuum equipment or heat treating equipment experience
- Experience mentoring engineers and designers
