Working with guidance from experienced engineers, this role will develop XAML-based user interfaces using WPF and MVVM, implement C# application logic, work with SQL databases and data-access components, and support instrument communication interfaces.
The Software Engineer II will also participate in software testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional development activities throughout the software development lifecycle. This position is well suited for an early-career engineer with strong programming fundamentals, practical exposure to .NET application development, and an interest in learning within a collaborative, regulated engineering environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop high-level and detailed architectures for electronic and firmware subsystems.
- Create detailed specifications, circuit designs, calculations, analyses, and simulations for major hardware and firmware components.
- Design, develop, modify, and evaluate analog, digital, mixed-signal, and electromechanical circuits, components, and integrated circuitry.
- Determine appropriate design approaches and technical parameters.
- Establish operating data, conduct experimental testing, and evaluate results against defined requirements.
- Select components and equipment based on technical specifications, performance, availability, reliability, and product requirements.
- Coordinate the fabrication and assembly of printed circuit board assemblies and other electrical subassemblies for conceptual models and prototypes.
- Debug electronic hardware and firmware and provide technical direction to assigned team members as needed.
- Prepare and maintain controlled engineering documentation, including:
- Technical specifications
- Electrical schematics
- PCB design inputs
- Bills of materials
- Engineering analyses
- Test protocols and records
- Lead and participate in design reviews, technical feasibility assessments, and engineering investigations.
- Evaluate new technologies, components, tools, and processes for potential use in new or enhanced products.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical and product issues.
- Assess supplier and vendor capabilities to support product-development requirements.
- Support design verification and validation activities.
- Support product safety, electromagnetic interference and compatibility, and other regulatory compliance activities.
- Support design transfer to manufacturing, including design for manufacturability and design for test.
- Create, document, and manage cable routing, cable harnesses, and cable-management standards.
- Identify and solve complex technical problems with minimal supervision.
- Maintain strong organization, attention to detail, and technical documentation throughout the product-development lifecycle.
Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required; master’s degree preferred.
- 5 to 8+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience, including experience in regulated product development.
- Demonstrated experience with analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design.
- Experience with electromechanical system design and integration.
- Proficiency with schematic-capture and PCB-design tools.
- Experience with the Altium 365 tool suite preferred.
- Experience with analog and digital circuit-simulation tools such as PSpice.
- Working knowledge of product-safety, electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility, and regulated product-development requirements.
- Experience developing technical specifications, electrical schematics, PCB design inputs, bills of materials, analyses, and test documentation.
- Experience selecting components based on technical requirements, performance, reliability, availability, and lifecycle considerations.
- Experience leading or participating in technical design reviews.
- Experience supporting prototype fabrication, assembly, bring-up, and testing.
- Experience troubleshooting electronic hardware and firmware.
- Experience supporting design verification, validation, regulatory compliance, and design transfer.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability and design for test principles.
- Experience creating or managing cable routing, cable harnesses, and cable-management standards.
- Ability to operate common electrical laboratory equipment, including:
- Oscilloscopes
- Multimeters
