Senior Cloud Engineer
Quick Summary
architecture diagrams, runbooks, environment inventories, and decision records that survive turnover.
N-Power Medicine is hiring a Senior Cloud Engineer to lead the cloud platform, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD foundation that the Applications Engineering team’s products run on. This team is responsible for the internal applications, orchestration platform, and operational tooling that the rest of the technology organization and Operations depend on, and the cloud platform underneath them.
This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role and the technical lead for the team’s AWS environments, deployment pipelines, observability stack, secrets and access management, and the overall security and compliance posture of the application stack. Cross-functional partnership is central — with ample collaboration expected with site reliability engineers on the team for production reliability and incident response, and with application engineers on making the path to production fast, safe, and well-instrumented. You will also be a key steward of the controls that keep regulated applications compliant.
This position is remote within the United States.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →
Lead the design, evolution, and day-to-day operation of the team’s AWS environments, including networking, IAM, compute (EC2, EKS/ECS), storage, and managed services.
- →
Drive infrastructure-as-code practice across the team using Terraform, Helm, and configuration tooling; raise the bar on reusability, modularity, and review.
- →
Build and maintain the team’s CI/CD pipelines so that engineers can ship to production safely, predictably, and with appropriate gates.
- →
Operate and evolve the observability stack (logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerting) so that issues are surfaced early and root cause is fast to identify.
- →
Maintain the security and compliance posture of the application stack, including secrets management, access controls, and audit logging
- →
Partner with the Site Reliability Engineer on production reliability, on-call practices, incident response, and post-incident learning.
- →
Provide hands-on technical guidance to application engineers on deployment patterns, environment management, and platform-aware design.
- →
Plan and execute environment changes — provisioning, migrations, upgrades, and decommissioning — with clear rollback paths.
- →
Evaluate and introduce new tooling and platform capabilities deliberately, balancing innovation against the team’s small size and operational load.
- →
Document the platform clearly: architecture diagrams, runbooks, environment inventories, and decision records that survive turnover.
- →
Coordinate with Data Engineering and AI Engineering on shared platform concerns where the application stack interfaces with the broader NPM data and AI platform.
- →
Carry pager responsibility for the application stack as part of a small on-call rotation.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
-
5+ years of combined experience in Cloud / DevOps / Platform / Site Reliability Engineering, with deep production AWS experience.
-
Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code: Terraform (required), and one or more of CloudFormation or Helm.
-
Production experience with container platforms — Docker plus Kubernetes (EKS preferred) — including cluster operations, networking, and Helm chart authoring.
-
Hands-on experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions or equivalent) and artifact management tooling (Artifactory, Nexus, or equivalent).
-
Working proficiency in Python and shell scripting for automation, plus comfort reading code in the languages the application team ships in.
-
Experience with log aggregation and observability tooling such as Datadog or Grafana, and with defining SLIs / SLOs / SLAs.
-
Solid grasp of cloud security practices: IAM, secrets management, network segmentation, audit logging, and patch / vulnerability management.
-
Demonstrated ability to operate as the primary cloud / platform engineer on a small team — deeply hands-on, well-organized, and able to prioritize against pressure.
-
Excellent communication skills; able to explain platform decisions and trade-offs to engineers and non-engineers alike.
-
Strong sense of ownership and personal accountability; calm under pressure.
-
Generous, Curious & Humble.
The following are preferred or nice to have:
-
Prior experience supporting a regulated environment (healthcare, life sciences, finance) and the controls that come with it.
-
AWS professional-level certification (e.g., DevOps Engineer Professional, Solutions Architect Professional).
-
Experience supporting data-intensive platforms (Databricks or comparable) at the infrastructure layer.
-
Experience supporting application teams through a platform migration or system decommissioning, including 21 CFR Part 11 obligations.
