About the Role

~1 min read

Hardware Solutions Competency Center (HWS-CC) is a central team within NXP’s Global Operations Engineering (GOE) organization responsible for design, manufacturing, compliance and supply chain operations of hardware boards.  The organization provides hardware solutions to all business units within NXP through its global presence in North America, Europe, and Asia.  Board types include customer reference design, silicon validation, failure analysis, and reliability applications.

The role spans the full hardware lifecycle: requirements capture, circuit design, PCB coordination, prototype bring-up, functional and electrical validation, EMI/EMC support, and sustaining engineering. You will independently own defined circuit blocks and validation activities while working with senior engineers on complex architecture and system-level decisions.

Responsibilities

~1 min read

·       Understand technical requirements and contribute to board-level architecture and component selection.

·       Design analog, digital, power-supply, clock, reset, boot-configuration, and interface circuits.

·       Develop and review schematics for microcontroller-, microprocessor-, or SoC-based hardware.

·       Read and interpret component datasheets, reference manuals, design guidelines, and interface specifications.

·       Define PCB placement, routing, stack-up, grounding, impedance, and power-distribution requirements.

·       Coordinate with PCB layout engineers and participate in schematic and layout reviews.

·       Apply design-for-manufacturing, design-for-test, reliability, and component-derating guidelines.

·       Maintain design data in PDM/PLM or version-control systems; support ECOs and NPI activities.

·       Prepare board bring-up plans and perform initial power, clock, reset, boot, and interface validation.

·       Debug board-level issues using schematics, PCB files, measurements, firmware logs, and component documentation.

·       Use laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, DMMs, logic analyzers, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, protocol analyzers, and JTAG/boundary-scan debug tools.

·       Develop and execute functional, electrical, interface, power, thermal, and margin test procedures.

·       Document test setups, measurements, observations, failures, root causes, and corrective actions.

·       Leverage basic scripting (Python or similar) for test automation, data logging, or measurement analysis.

·       Support EMI/EMC design reviews covering grounding, shielding, filtering, return paths, and interface protection.

·       Participate in pre-compliance and certification testing (radiated/conducted emissions, immunity, ESD, electrical safety, environmental compliance).

·       Work with compliance laboratories and internal teams to investigate certification failures and validate corrective actions.

·       Collaborate with PCB layout, firmware, software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and compliance teams.

·       Support prototype builds, component replacements, board revisions, and sustaining-engineering activities.

·       Provide effort estimates, proactively flag design risks and component availability issues, and communicate technical status to the project lead.

·       Location: Noida

·       3-5 years of relevant experience in board-level hardware design, bring-up, testing, or validation.

·       Hands-on experience designing and debugging analog and digital electronic circuits.

·       Experience with microcontrollers, processors, SoCs, memories, PMICs, voltage regulators, clock devices, and standard board-level peripherals.

·       Practical experience in schematic capture and PCB design review using tools such as Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, or equivalent.

·       Understanding of multilayer PCB design: grounding, return paths, controlled impedance, decoupling, and power distribution.

·       Experience bringing up prototype boards and troubleshooting power, clock, reset, boot, memory, and interface-related issues.

·       Working knowledge of commonly used interfaces: UART, I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, CAN, JTAG, SD/eMMC, SMBus, or PMBus.

·       Working familiarity with multiple high-speed interface (PCIe, DDR4/5, LPDDR, high-speed USB, or SerDes); ability to interpret SI simulation results and apply termination/routing guidelines.

·       Experience using laboratory equipment: oscilloscopes, DMMs, logic analyzers, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, protocol analyzers, and JTAG/boundary-scan debug tools.

·       Working understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, transmission-line effects, termination, crosstalk, and timing.

·       Practical understanding of EMI/EMC design practices: filtering, shielding, grounding, ESD protection, and noise reduction.

·       Exposure to EMI/EMC pre-compliance or certification testing; ability to support debugging.

·       Familiarity with certification standards such as CISPR, IEC, FCC, CE, automotive, or industry-specific requirements (expertise in all standards is not expected).

·       Ability to prepare clear design documents, test procedures, validation reports, and failure-analysis reports.

·       Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication(written/Oral) , and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Requirements

~1 min read

·       Education: Bachelor’s/master’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent

·       Experience with embedded, automotive, industrial, consumer, networking, or semiconductor evaluation hardware.

·       Basic scripting ability (Python, MATLAB, or similar) for test automation, data logging, or measurement analysis.

·       Exposure to SPICE simulation or signal/power integrity analysis tools.

·       Experience supporting products through prototype, validation, certification, and production stages.

·       Familiarity with PCB fabrication, assembly, manufacturing test, and component qualification.

·       Exposure to environmental and reliability testing: temperature, vibration, thermal cycling, or humidity.

·       Experience working with external design partners, PCB manufacturers, test laboratories, or component suppliers.

Within HWS-CC, this engineer will be expected to:

·       Independently design and validate assigned circuit blocks.

·       Coordinate PCB implementation for assigned portions of the design.

·       Bring up and debug prototype hardware with limited supervision.

·       Prepare and execute test plans for assigned functions and interfaces.

·       Support EMI/EMC investigation and certification activities as part of a larger engineering team.

·       Proactively flag design risks, schedule impacts, and component availability issues before they become blockers.

·       Escalate architecture, high-speed design, safety, and complex compliance issues to senior technical experts.

·       Maintain accurate design, test, and issue-tracking documentation.
