Our client, a leading company within the ship repair and industrial sector, is seeking a dedicated Quality Engineer to join its team in Malta. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all ship repair, refit, maintenance, and production activities are carried out in accordance with quality standards, customer requirements, classification society rules, and applicable regulations.
Working closely with Project Managers, Production teams, Technical Departments, and HSE personnel, the Quality Engineer will support quality assurance initiatives, conduct inspections, manage non-conformities, and contribute to continuous improvement across shipyard operations.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- → Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- → Perform inspections and quality control activities throughout the execution of ship repair and refit projects.
- → Monitor fabrication, mechanical, piping, electrical, coating, and other production activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures and technical specifications.
- → Participate in internal and external audits involving clients, classification societies, and certification bodies.
- → Identify, document, and manage non-conformities, ensuring effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- → Review technical documentation, inspection and test plans (ITPs), procedures, and quality records.
- → Support project teams in resolving quality-related issues and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- → Monitor quality performance indicators and prepare reports for management.
- → Liaise with clients, surveyors, inspectors, and classification representatives during inspections and key project stages.
- → Ensure proper traceability and documentation of materials, inspections, certifications, and project records.
- → Support supplier and subcontractor quality assessments where required.
- → Promote a strong quality culture and best practices throughout the organization.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical field. Equivalent technical qualifications combined with relevant experience will also be considered.
- Strong knowledge of quality assurance and quality control methodologies.
- Previous experience within ship repair, shipbuilding, industrial manufacturing, or similar technical environments will be considered an asset.
- Familiarity with fabrication, mechanical, piping, electrical, and coating processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and inspection documentation.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis, non-conformity management, and corrective action processes.
- Understanding of classification society requirements and international quality standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and reporting skills.
