Financial Controller

Playing a critical role in an established education organisation, and working directly with executive leadership, the Financial Controller will oversee core financial functions, ensuring precision in monthly accounting records. In the short term, this role is responsible for supporting the Head of Finance to maintain smooth daily operations across existing sites. In the medium term, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and optimising scalable financial systems, policies, and automated processes to support organisational expansion. This position is based full-time at the organisation's Head Office in Centurion. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting: Maintain accurate, complete, and valid monthly accounting records; support the Head of Finance in preparing monthly management accounts, including draft income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Systems & Process Optimisation: Support the Head of Finance to design, develop, optimise, and implement robust internal systems, processes, policies, and procedures, with a focus on process automation and operational efficiency. Accounts Payable & Procurement: Support procurement processes alongside campus Operations Managers; review age analysis, perform reconciliations, and manage vendor payments. Accounts Receivable & Credit Control: Oversee accounts receivable, review age analysis and reconciliations, manage bad debt provisions, and support the Debtors Manager as needed. Internal Controls & Audit: Conduct regular internal audits and control reviews; assist the Head of Finance with external audit queries and compliance requirements. Tax & Statutory Compliance: Ensure all tax reporting, submissions, and payments are accurate and up to date; maintain compliance with statutory bodies including CIPC and COIDA. Asset Management: Maintain and update the group fixed asset register. Requirements Essential Requirements Minimum 3-year tertiary degree in Accounting or Financial Management. Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar financial management or controlling role. Proven track record in designing, improving, and automating financial systems and processes. Strong organisational and time management skills with a focus on execution. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Desirable Requirements Prior financial experience within the education sector.
